🚨 CONFIRMED! Final GW1 team! 🚨
***UPDATE: I’ve selected van Aanholt in the final spot for Zinchenko. One factor is to reduce the risk of rotation. He was also in my first draft, so it feels right. Zaha stayed at Crystal Palace which increases their attack potential, and PVA is the defender I trust most in the £5.5m price range:
- Top points scorer last season
- Second most clean sheets (12)
- Second in bonus points (17)
PREVIOUS NOTES: Reading up on all the press conferences before posting the final team. Zinchenko will not make my final team. Zinchenko should be ok to start GW1, but I don’t know Guardiola’s plans for his fullbacks after signing Cancelo. I will most likely keep the same team structure with Perez.

Hi. Loving it. To fit both of those strikers, and their prices aren’t so cheap, you will have to make a compromise. Your approach makes sense. Between Walker and Digne at the back. I may go with no Man City defenders since their fixtures aren’t so great according to our fixture difficulty cheatsheet. But that’s up to you, no right or wrong.

Love him as a player and he’s an FPL bonus magnet with his tackles. Wish he was a bit more attack-minded.
He is a good choice. I’m not completely sold on United’s starting fixtures and I prefer to watch teams with big changes, like United at the back, before making a decision.

Dont you think sterling will score more points than salah because he is one of the few fit forwards city has and city will probably beat west ham with high goal difference

In view of Zinchinko / Cancelo situation was thinking of going Kyle Walker and changing Perez for Ross Barkley (had a great pre-season)….what do you think?

That’s a reasonable plan. I have the same players and decision and may go straight swap Zinchenko to another defender, Keeping Perez.

Yes, I just updated the team image at the top of the blog post to show that there is one final decision – Zinchenko out.
My team is the same, I don’t have any set plans for GW3 just yet. Prefer to watch the games so I can make proper decisions using all the information.
But it’s always great to plan ahead, so I appreciate any tips you may share as well. 👍

Walker is similar to Zinchenko. My concern isn’t for GW1, but for the future as Cancelo will add rotation options for City fullbacks. He most likely won’t be ready straight away.
Perez is a great option to start. I love the team idea you’re working with on both comments.

Hi there Bruno, i really appreciate your videos and also find your music to be the cherry on top .. This is my final team below with the reasoning behind it too .. please gimme some feedback to see if i am on the right track
(FORMATION): 3-5-2
(GOAL): Ryan, Button
(DEF): Laporte, TAA and Ake —
[Laporte instead of The Great Wall of Van Dijk because Norwich scored 93 goals in the championship and LFC could potentially concede one if preseason stats are anything to go by. Ake has shown some promising goal threats in the past and in the first two games they stand a good chance of keeping a clean-sheet too]
(MID): Salah(C), Sterling(V), Fraser, Perez and Lucas Moura
[Fraser’s stats were very good last season to say the least and preseason he bagged a couple goals which also gives me reassurance on top of their first two fixtures. Lucas Moura has been very good preseason and will definitely start due to Son being suspended, last season he also had some good returns considering the small amount of minutes he played]
(ATT): Wilson and Wood
[Wood instead of King because his preseason performance in terms of goals and assist has been the best out of any EPL player .. they face Southampton at home for the first game which could prove lucrative if he continues his for]
(BENCH): Greenwood, Lundstram and Kelly
[Low budget bench to make more room for my starting line-up]

Good points with the defenders, especially that Norwich are a scoring team. I will write some counter arguments like Liverpool defend from the front with Firmino and Salah who they missed in pre-season. Opponents are also less likely to push in the attack if they know they have Salah, Firmino (and Mane) at the other end. But you’re right about your points! Agree with you on Ake also.
Perfect mids and reasoning.
No main concern with the forwards. I like that it’s Wilson in that spot. Small note on Burnley’s fixtures not being the greatest GW2-GW4, but Wood has the potential to score against any side with his ability in or near the box. Plus GW1 is a solid green fixture…
Those are the thoughts, your team is locked down and ready. Hopefully we can both get big points from our different premium defenders. 👍

This leaves me short on funds for when I have to switch out origi.

Hi. Don’t worry, take a deep breath as your team is already strong.
GK+DEF+MID are done.
The only note is what you mentioned, Origi. I like him as a player and he may start and score GW1. But once everyone is back, he probably won’t get consistent starts. Also, choosing him takes away a spot in your team for another Liverpool player. But it’s not an easy decision because of GW1. I’d hate to tell you to drop him, then he scores in the first game. Even if Klopp drops him after that, I would still feel bad.
One main problem is any draft with Salah Sterling and Kane will require a compromise, or cut to the team balance. I might consider a switch in formation, bringing in Greenwood up front then seeing if another starting defender or midfielder feels better than Origi.
You would need to experiment, not with the team core, but just two positions to finalize the squad.
The point is, even if your team started the way it is, you will be ok. 🙂
