FPL GW35+ Team
🚨 Final GW35+ Team! 🚨
***UPDATE: Sticking to the plan and rolling the dice on Vardy. Thanks and good luck!!! 👍💯 -Bruno
Fantasy Strategy.
Two late changes cost my team a valuable 12 points. With less than an hour before deadline, I switched the captaincy from Fernandes to De Bruyne and benched Greenwood for Jimenez. Why?
Instead of digging through stats, I’m going deeper into my emotional state at that decision-making moment.
This paragraph is the briefest explanation of my decision-making process in Fantasy. I watch games and take mental or written notes. I can also take in games without actively thinking about FPL. I want the process to be instinctive. 90% of my transfer plan and strategy is set at the final whistle of the last game. I set the captaincy and starting lineup with confidence early on, then I stay open-minded as I gather new information on injuries, rotation and other factors. I’m cautious of being too open-minded! That includes making changes that go against my original ideas.
When the season restarted, I made a pact to myself to select players I was excited to watch. Ownership stats are important, but I want to enjoy the game as much as possible before it’s ruined with drinks breaks on chilly nights, and ten subs per game, and fake crowd noise like a drone digging into my brain.
And VAR.
So I sold Mane and Traore for De Bruyne and Pulisic. Then I tightened up the team depth by shifting Connolly out for Greenwood. I was more excited to watch the new players.
Even when the initial results were less than optimal, especially when taking a transfer hit, I calculated the players’ points potential over a number of Gameweeks.
These are the post Wildcard results of a -4 hit after just two Gameweeks:
Old players. Mane 11+0 = 11, Traore 2+3 = 5
New players. KDB 1+7 = 8, Pulisic 6+9 = 15 (-4 hit)
Mane+Traore = 16
KDB+Pulisic = 23 (-4) = 19
The ‘transfers out’ returned 16 points compared to 19 for the ‘transfers in.’ Or 16 to 26 if we count double captain points for KDB this round.
Investing on exciting players worked. So why did I bench Greenwood, one of two late changes that cost my team 9 points?
I made key decisions from an emotional state of desperation. Time was running out.
- Finalizing my team
- Setting Daily Fantasy
- Creating FPL content
- Making music
- Going for a daily walk
- Spending time with my family
I was juggling multiple priorities within a 24 hour deadline and ended up out of sync. My mistake was spending too much time finalizing my FPL team. It was already set instinctively.
At the completion of GW34+, I felt confident in the plan for GW35+. It took just a few minutes to come up with a strategy, albeit after watching hours of games.
Now it’s time to experiment.
GW35+ Transfers
Transfers: 2 (-4 hit)
Transfers OUT: Son, Rashford ❌
Transfers IN: Martial, Vardy (c) ✅
Heung-Min Son (1PT).
Benched by Mourinho. I was so excited to watch Son play against Bournemouth! Despite his introduction at halftime, Son was unable to make a significant impact in the game. My concern is not Tottenham’s ability, it’s their motivation and determination in the season run-in.
⚽️ Spurs failed to register a single shot on target against the Cherries.
Marcus Rashford (2PTS).
He’s been unlucky not to score more points since the restart. Solskjaer must’ve felt the same way when he gave Rashford the full 90 minutes against Villa while others were rested. It wasn’t his day, but don’t be discouraged if you’re keeping him in your team. His scoring potential remains a positive.
Anthony Martial (6PTS).

Martial provided the assist to Greenwood and smashed one against the crossbar. Like Rashford, he is scoring below his potential in Fantasy. But there are other reasons why I swapped United “forwards.”
1. Martial and Greenwood are the focal points in United’s attack. Bruno Fernandes was talking to Martial during the game to coordinate their movements.
2. Rashford has a supporting role on the wing, Martial is more direct down the center. Rashford was only able to sneak in behind the defense after Martial and Greenwood were off the pitch.
3. Martial was angry at being subbed off for a rest. He’s enjoying himself with Fernandes, Pogba, Greenwood, and Rashford. His desire to score is evident. Who will finish as the team’s top scorer?
⚽️ Martial and Rashford are tied on 20 goals and 7 assists this season.
Jamie Vardy (9PTS).
Hat-tricks and red cards. Vardy is an explosive player who plays right on the edge. To captain him is a huge risk, but my team is struggling to make big leaps in the Overall Rank. I want to take a chance.
One positive is his form. Vardy is averaging 11 points in his last two games. Another is the recovery time. Leicester played against 10-men Arsenal on Tuesday while Bournemouth played 112 minutes against Spurs on Thursday. Bournemouth defenders have just two days of recovery and preparation before the match on Sunday.
The Cherries are also fighting relegation. Against Spurs, they weren’t afraid to attack and go for the three points. They also left gaps in behind, but Lamela and Moura dribbled at defenders instead of exploiting the space behind.
With Maddison injured, Leicester retain less possession. As their opponents get comfortable on the ball, the Foxes are more direct with Vardy as the target on the counter.
⚽️ Vardy is leading the Golden Boot race with 22 goals.
The Results.
⚽️ Upper 90 Studios climbed from 250k to 215k in the Overall Rank.
FPL GW34+ Review
Let’s break down player performances top to bottom.
Nick Pope (8PTS), Charlie Taylor (11PTS).
Burnley were solid defensively without captain Ben Mee and didn’t deserve to concede a late goal against Sheffield United. They fought even harder against West Ham this week and I’m grateful for a double clean sheet. A combined 19 points from the cheapest players in the starting eleven. The only concern is Liverpool next. Play it safe with Lascelles, or one more roll of the dice?
Christian Pulisic (9PTS).
WHAT A GOAL! Another run inside the box, quick switch from his right to his left foot, and bang. No chance for the keeper. Pulisic has yet to blank since the restart. That’s now three goals and three assists in five Premier League games. I want to see more of Pulisic and Willian running at defenders.
Bruno Fernandes (14PTS).
Never a penalty. Fernandes steps on the Villa defender and falls over holding his ankle. Not that I’m complaining! 14 points is massive for my team. Despite his high ownership with #Elite64 managers, Fernandes is owned by less than 30% overall. Although many teams could be inactive by now.
Kevin De Bruyne (7PTS).
He was excellent against Newcastle and deserved more. David Silva hurt De Bruyne in Fantasy, taking over a free kick and scoring, then missing at least two easy chances from KDB. Not bitter at all! 🙂
On a serious note, De Bruyne took a knock near the end after a hospital pass from Sterling. He seemed ok to continue, but it was worrying to see him down injured. Every factor counts, and I may not consider KDB for the captaincy this round. Another factor is City’s opponent. Brighton are playing with confidence and deserved to score more goals against Liverpool.
Mo Salah (18PTS).
MOTM. Salah was on a mission to score a hat-trick and nearly got it with the last kick of the game. I was surprised to see him scream at his teammates when they didn’t give him the ball. His eyes are locked on the Golden Boot and he is currently five goals behind leader Jamie Vardy.
⚽️ Salah has 100 goal involvements in 104 games for Liverpool (73G, 27A).
The bad.
Raul Jimenez (2PTS). This is what I wrote on Jimenez last week: “Wolves must create more chances to score. Until they do, Jimenez won’t be considered for the captaincy. His starting spot in my team could even be threatened by a new arrival.”
Nothing’s changed, except his place in the team is now in jeopardy. I have my eyes on Danny Ings GW36.

Hi Bruno
Awesome blog content with great insight into your thinking process.
Somehow you seem disappointed with 83 points….I think thats excellent. You beat me by 2 points!. (but only cos I had 17 points with 2 bench players- Ings and Aurier!🙂).
My rank after 5 continuos restart gameweeks green arrows, is around 800k. I am trying to get into top 250k,u think its possible still?
My best finish ever was 170k and worst 1.1m.
My “wife’s” team is still ahead of me, at around 300k🤔…..not sure who makes her transfers as she swears she knows nothing about FPL😉
I’ve also brought in Vardy last night(in place of Kane, who is lacking confidence and pace, rumour is he will be classified as a defender next season on FPL!).
This is my existing team:
Pope,( Martin)
TAA, Robertson, Doherty,(Aurier),( Lascelles)
De Bruyne, Salah, Fernandes, Martial, Foden
Vardy, Greenwood,(Ings)
1. Firstly what do you think of my team for GW35?. Im thinking I could be missing points without another top Man City player and their good looking next fixtures…..also Im not sure if Foden will start, wise to keep him or not?.
2.I was thinking of doing one of the following transfer plans for GW35+:
2.1) Ings and Doherty >Jesus and Justin/Lamptey/Dawson(-8)
2.2) Foden and Doherty > Mahrez and Diop/Lamptey(-8)
2. 3) Salah and Foden> Sterling and Antonio(plays Norwich)/ Pulisic(-8)
2.4. Do nothing- leave team as is
3. Who do you think should be benched?.
4. Chances of Salah and TAA starting this gameweek?
5. Captain….Im thinking of between Vardy, Fernandes or Man City player( if I bring in Sterling, Jesus/Mahrez). Your views?.
I would appreciate your valuable insights on the above.
PS: Nice priority list, is it in order of priority?. When are you releasing your next song on the blog?
Upper 90 Studios
10/07/20
Hi. Thanks. Haha, yes I was happy initially then I realized the extra 12 points from the original plan might’ve pushed the rank into the 100k range. Stuck on 200k for too long…
17pts off the bench is the best, nicely done. I believe 250k is around 1980 total points. Best guess is you would need to make up around 75-80 points to reach it. I’ve always felt like I could make up 100 points in 2-3 Gameweeks, but the game has changed with social media and template teams. 4 Gameweeks remaining should leave your target within reach as long as your team keeps delivering.
Yes, Kane dropping deep is not a good look. Even though I didn’t have him, I thought he was barged into for a penalty, but VAR didn’t agree.
1. Good question. I’m sticking with just KDB for now even though no one is safe from Pep roulette. I don’t have the best prediction for City GW35. Brighton surprised me against Liverpool despite the final score. Giving away two goals inside 8 minutes was a blow and I was impressed with how they fought back. City’s fixtures are enticing in general, so it’s easier for Foden owners to keep him then it is for non-owners to bring him in.
2. a) Ings has a tricky one this week, but he is top of my Watchlist for GW36 and the run-in. The hits are hard to justify if an in-form Ings can manage a goal vs. United.
b) Maybe I prefer this one, but there are always unknowns with Mahrez starting consistently. Plus the hit, but it could work. Prefer a gamble on Lamptey, but the timing may not be right this week.
c) Hard to suggest selling Salah after that performance. He looked hungrier than ever to score. Prefer Pulisic out of the 3, but even he will need a rest at some stage.
d) Leaning toward leaving it as is with one transfer, Vardy. Watch Doherty and Foden closely, then make changes if needed next round.
3. It’s well set as is. Your bench could come into play once again if starters are rested.
4. Good, not so good.
5. I’m taking a risk on Vardy against Bournemouth, but Fernandes is a top option with the early substitution. City players can always deliver big points, but it’s hard to tell when each player’s turn will come. It was David Silva’s GW34.
I’ve been wondering for my own team if one City player is enough and I’m still undecided, so it’s hard to point you in a set direction at this moment.
PS: No it’s not in order! 🙂 My wife would love to see that… haha. For some reason, my music creativity slowed when everything happened with the virus. Slowly coming back into it now with a few ideas in progress.
Thanks for the great comment.

Thanks Bruno for the feedback. The hit or no hit for another Man City player, is not worth it for a -8 or better put, there might be more downside than potential upside. If so Vardy captain hopefully makes up for it⚽⚽⚽.
Would you say the same for De Bruyne to Sterling(appears popular captain pick this week)for a -4 this gameweek?
Good luck and wishing you green arrows🟢
Upper 90 Studios
11/07/20
That’s a tough one. I’ve been debating whether to test an extra City player and Sterling could work. I might prefer him over Mahrez.
I’m currently sticking to just KDB to avoid Pep roulette. Even he is a doubt this week, so we’ll see.
Your call on this one. Good luck!

Hi Bruno
After some thought and gut feeling I brought in Sterling for a -4( in place of KDB)at the last minute, after sending you a message.⚽⚽⚽.
One of my transfer options included was not only bringing in Vardy, Sterling, but also Antonio for a -8 hit. After Antonio’s explosion today, imagine if I had…..you win some, you lose some. But just so happy, Sterling transfer worked for me( I had a suspicion KDB might not be at full potential, after his recent injury scare).
Now, lets wait for the Captain Vardy Party ⚽⚽⚽ tomorrow!
Ps: Im thinking of freehitting for GW36. Do you think its a good time- 3 x Man City( Bournemouth) & 3 x Chelsea(Norwhich) probably all forwards/mids, 1/2LiverPool defenders at most. Antonio?Early thoughts and any other must have players/teams for GW36?

Hi. Nice moves. 👍
It should be good for the FH chip. The only note is FA Cup might be between GW36-GW37. I have to check.
Still checking up on some games before thinking about a plan, but I like your ideas.

Thanks Bruno. Good point on FA Cup, I never realised that.
Its all about maximising my FH chip.
My current team is:
Pope,( Martin)
TAA, Robertson, Doherty,(Aurier),( Lascelles)
Sterling, Salah, Fernandes, Martial, (Foden)
Vardy, Greenwood,Ings
Given my existing team above, would you say its better to go for:
Option 1. Replace Vardy with Jesus GW36+,keep free hit for GW38+( do you think early team news likely for all teams in last gameweek to set up team better for FH for GW38? Also will it allow enough time in GW38+ to make changes if required?)
Option 2. Use FH chip in GW36+ to bring in 3 x top Man City, Chelsea forwards/mids and other form/easier fixture players?. This though relies on these players playing firstly and then also outperforming the other top players with not such an easy fixture (on paper at least)………
Option 3. A combo of the above Option 1 plus take a -4 or – 8 hit to bring in strong form/ easier fixture players, while preserving FH chip for GW38+.
I would really appreciate your wisdom and valued insights on the above options and what you believe is the best option or ranking them.
Cheers.

14/07/20
Hi. Option 1 is what I’m considering at the moment. But I will likely wait until the press conferences Tuesday (Guardiola) and check for early Chelsea lineup leaks before making transfers.
I don’t know about GW38 lineups. It seems FPL_Rockstar isn’t confident on having them. But he’s said this before and still came through, so we’d have to keep on top of it.
Option 2 can also work especially with early Chelsea lineups. The concern is the manner in which Chelsea were beaten 3-0, and the FA Cup might cause some early subs. Willian played the full 90min last game.
Option 3. I’d hate to point you in the wrong direction with the chips. I can say that your team is already strong for GW36 and you might not need a hit.
Leaning toward Option 1, but you can stay flexible and check on early lineups Tuesday. If that pushes you to take a risk with the FH, go for it!

Hey Bruno, your team value looks insane. How have you managed that, just curious 🙂
Upper 90 Studios
10/07/20
Hey. The total Team Value is £107m.
I rarely make transfers just for price changes, but it is a factor in my strategy. Having a high Team Value gives the flexibility to bring in premium players when others can’t. Not that it’s all about premium players. It just provides that option.
A healthy Team Value should happen naturally as we buy and sell players. Nothing wrong with jumping on a bandwagon if that player can do well in at least the next 1-3 Gameweeks (Greenwood recently). If I’m not confident in a player and his price is close to a price drop, I consider other options (Sarr a few weeks ago).
For price changes, I keep an eye on http://fplstatistics.com/ pretty much daily. But I have a rough idea of who is rising and dropping after watching them play and knowing the upcoming fixtures.
The Wildcard can be a factor. I like using mine when there is high activity in the transfer market and other managers are not considering their Wildcard. Wildcards don’t affect price changes, so going with the masses might not work as expected for increasing Team Value.
Hard to explain it all on a comment reply! I have hundreds of notes and I’ll make a video or post on this topic one day.

Hi Bruno, great job on the team. Appreciate your thoughts on the team
Pope (Martin)
TAA, Doherty, Fernandez, Taylor (Simpson)
KdB, Mane, Fernandes, Traore (D.Luiz)
Greenwood, Rashford, Jimenez
Have 1 FT and $0.9M banked
So 2 options I am thinking
1). Inges for Rashford, Pulisic for Traore and -4 pt hit, 09 banked
2) Mane, Traore, Rashford out, Vardy, Pulisic, Martial in. -8 hit. but 2.5M left in the bank for moves next week for mid or defense.
I’m thinking option 1 as Mane should be rested and ready to go and if he doesn’t preform I can move him next week.
Would appreciate your thoughts. Thank you and hope you and your family are safe and well.

Bruno forgot to ask, option 3. Inges for Rashford, Pulisic for Traore, Salah for Mane -8 hit. Thanks again.
Upper 90 Studios
10/07/20
Hi. Thanks.
1) If it was Ings GW36, it would be easier. Not that he can’t score against United, Southampton are playing well. Pulisic over Traore makes sense, especially if Traore misses out with injury. Small note that Pulisic has been playing a lot, so be ready and accept the unexpected benching like we saw with KDB GW33 and Mane GW34. Even off the bench, Pulisic can still deliver against tired defenses.
2) I like this one, but there is risk involved. We know what Mane can do, even Rashford has been scoring below his potential, although I didn’t like seeing him play the full 90min when others were managed with early subs. The hit is a factor, so you’d have to give some time for the new players to make it worthwhile. Except Vardy. He has to score right now. 🙂
3) So good with Salah, but I’m afraid to say yes then he’s benched. As you said, Mane had his rest. It’s a similar decision I had to make when I sold Mane for KDB who was benched the very next Gameweek, Mane scored 11pts. Then KDB 7pts, Mane bench 0pts.
I’m stumped on this one. They’re all good, I’m excited for Pulisic and Martial. Vardy is a big gamble, Mane and Salah have similar potential assuming they both start.
There’s also Jimenez… Ings for Jimenez GW36 could be straightforward depending on performances.
I like the idea of Rashford to Martial and Traore to Pulisic in the long-run even with a hit. Then possibly Jimenez to Ings GW36. But I understand funds are an issue, so the final decision to risk or play it safe is up to you. Trust your instinct if you’re feeling Ings, he’s at his best.

Hey Bruno!
Scored 85pts with KDB captain and climbed 88K in the OR, very chuffed about this week even if I say that I could’ve scored 100+pts with Taylor (11pts) on the bench and picked a different captain like Fernandes. Anyways I feel like in hindsight since the restart I’ve enjoyed getting into the numbers for making decisions but ultimately it has been the gut-feeling transfers that have proven more valuable to my team and made FPL more satisfying to play. Also I’ve never been an FPL player to change tactics due to Cup/European games some team may have in their schedule but after the restart I’ve felt that the short fixture list has completely shifted my thinking when considering transfers. Although it doesn’t make predicting line ups any easier, it is clearer to see how a teams momentum changes game by game thus making judgements on players’ form much easier
For this week I’ve got a solid starting XI providing nobody gets dropped but I have Pope against Liverpool. As I have a few million in the bank and a team set for the season, I’ve decided to bring in Schmeichel as a second GK, this also means I still have Pope for his games against Norwich and Brighton.
For GW36+ I’m keeping it loosy-goosy but I’m really considering dropping Kane as I’m just losing confidence in Spurs. I’m thinking of replacing him with either Ings or Vardy but if you have any other suggestions? I’m open to ideas. I’ve already got Jesus and Greenwood and I can afford any forward I want.
Good Luck with this GW35. positive vibes =)

Hey! Nice work. 👍 Good hearing your strategy.
Not ideal, but I’m going with Pope as well and possible save points. His last two fixtures are favorable according to our cheatsheet.
Leaning toward Ings at this moment, but we’ll have to take in another round of games then assess.
Good luck!

I totally agree with your transfers. I got 89pts GW35. I sold Sarr and Traore in GW32 for Foden and Saint Maximin because I saw how sharp those two players were in the previous Gameweek(31). I got 55pts GW 32 which is not encouraging. Is it safe for a return now Maximin for Traore?
Upper 90 Studios
11/07/20
Congrats on the score. I’m not sure about Traore, so it’s your call on this one. Wolves haven’t been creating as many chances as I’d like to see and he might be struggling with a shoulder issue. I didn’t see concrete info on his availability GW35.
The only player on my Watchlist in ASM’s price range is Ward-Prowse (difficult fixture). I’ve also added Saka as an enabler to free up funds for other positions if I need to switch formation.
If it seems ASM is back and ready, keeping him as a gamble is another option.

Hi Bruno!
Im like 60 points behind the Leader in my league, I have the triple captain left and Do u think it is a good idea to use it on a Man city player in gw36 vs Bournemouth?
Im thinking of Mahrez if he gets the bench against Brighton
What do u say?
Upper 90 Studios
11/07/20
Hi! I usually refrain from giving a direct yes or no with the chips because we can see a big swing in the results.
A City player against Bournemouth is a top option, the question is whether that player will start. I can’t predict what Guardiola will do. I’ve seen him bench the same player two games in a row, then start him in consecutive games.
Up to you on this one, but I wish you a big score with your decision.

Question, I have 2 FreeTransfers now, but i plan to FreeHit coming GW, I read from the rules that it will revert my team back after that GW along with ONLY 1 FreeTransfer.
Is there a way to undo the lost? Maybe make 2 permanent FreeTransfers now, then perhaps FH?
Upper 90 Studios
14/07/20
Unfortunately no. I believe the Free Hit acts like a Wildcard in that sense. After using the FH chip, you would lose the 2FTs and have 1FT available the following Gameweek.
But don’t let that detract you from using the chip if you’re really feeling it. I’ve used the Wildcard with 2FTs in the past with success.
