FANTASY PREMIER LEAGUE TEAM TIPS FOR 2019-20
FPL GW38+ Team
🚨 Final GW38+ Team! 🚨
***UPDATE: I’ve moved for Sterling captain. Pieters also steps in for the injured Taylor. -8 hit to end the season with players I want to watch. Thanks and good luck!!! 👍💯 -Bruno
Previous updates: Waiting for those early lineup leaks! Most likely moving for Sterling if he’s set to start. I want to play all my attackers! See the transfer plan below.
PS: Season review blog post to come after GW38. Then it’s a nice break before the next season!
Mixed Emotions
This is it! One last push before this strange season is finally over. I’ve been holding on to a lot of tension, and now I’m laughing at the ridiculousness of the last three Gameweeks. I’ve put down the pieces I dislike about Fantasy (VAR) to uncover something new to enjoy.
Top 100k was right there for the taking and instead it escaped my grasp in spectacular fashion.
Three setbacks in a row.
I put everything on the line with differential captains in the last three Gameweeks. I bought and captained Vardy for Bournemouth GW35. Vardy scored and Ake was injured before halftime, then red card Soyuncu! Bournemouth went on to score four goals costing Vardy three bonus points. Bruno Fernandes (5PTS) was the popular captain pick, Vardy (7PTS) outscored him but it wasn’t enough.
Next was Salah versus a depleted Arsenal GW36. Salah (2PTS) failed to capitalize on his chances when managers captained Sterling (1PT). It was brutal watching time run out for Salah after Sterling blanked.
Lastly, I bought and captained Ings for Bournemouth GW37. Ings scored and was set for three bonus points, then he missed a penalty! 13 points dropped to 4 and for his captainers, 26 points to 8! A swing of 18 points in an instant. Ings (4PTS) still managed to outscore the popular captain Fernandes (1PT).
Those outcomes were some of the hardest I’ve ever had to accept in twelve seasons playing FPL. I was so excited to take a chance and it was right there!
I’m left frustrated and overwhelmed. When this happens, I ask myself, “Where is the silver lining?”
Silver lining.
I don’t know how to say this, so here it goes. In the same time I was losing in FPL, I was winning in Daily Fantasy. Two first place winners, one runner up. Money doesn’t solve problems, but I would be lying if it didn’t soften the blow. Daily Fantasy is a helpful tool for FPL and you don’t have to risk money.
These websites are useful to study which players are performing well and have good scoring odds. It took me at least a year before I started investing in Daily Fantasy. The learning curve can be costly. ⚠️
Behind every setback is an opportunity, I’m finding other pieces of the puzzle to enjoy.
⚽️ I’m considering adding Daily Fantasy content and stats next season. Does anyone else play DFS?
GW37+ Points.
⚽️ Upper 90 Studios dropped from 220k to 285k in the Overall Rank. Big red arrows with a -8 hit.
GW37+ Review
Let’s break down performances top to bottom.
Nick Pope (6PTS).
Another clean sheet for Pope who has a chance at becoming the first goalkeeper outside the ‘top six’ to win the Golden Glove award.
⚽️ No goalkeeper has more clean sheets in the league than Nick Pope (15).
Alexander-Arnold (13PTS).
How many defenders can concede three goals and still return double digits in FPL? Giving away a free kick just outside the box when Alexander-Arnold is on the pitch is almost the same as a penalty. You just feel like he’s going to bury it. A goal, assist and maximum bonus for my team’s top scorer GW37.
⚽️ No defender has more goals (4) or assists (15) than Alexander-Arnold this season.

Matt Doherty (12PTS).
Wolves kept out Crystal Palace with Doherty’s assist earning him all three bonus points. Only two defenders have provided more assists than Matt Doherty this season, Alexander-Arnold and Robertson. If Wolves fail to keep a clean sheet against Chelsea, I’m hoping for more attacking returns from Doherty on the final day.
Christian Pulisic (9PTS).
There was no sign of injury when he came on, so why did Lampard bench Pulisic in such an important game? Chelsea were on the ropes, then Pulisic came on and changed the game. Liverpool defenders couldn’t get near him when he set up Giroud. When he scored, that’s when I went from crying to laughing knowing I benched him in FPL and used him in DFS. 🙂

The bad.
Bruno Fernandes (1PT). Misplaced passes and giving away possession cheaply – his worst performance in a United shirt. Fernandes also got involved in an off-the-ball incident that could’ve resulted in a straight red card. He has an opportunity to bounce back GW38 against Leicester’s makeshift defense.
Riyad Mahrez (1PT) and Marcus Rashford (1PT). Mahrez was benched and looked disinterested when he came on. Rashford had a poor game and Solskjaer had enough when he yanked him off for Ighalo in the late stages. To rub salt in my wounds, the players I sold for hits delivered returns. Salah (5PTS) and Greenwood (9PTS) had plenty of chances and I’m fortunate that they didn’t score more points.
Charlie Taylor (0PTS) and Jamaal Lascelles (0PTS). Injured at the worst possible time. No urgency to replace them either with just one game to go. I’m swinging for the fences. 🔥💯
GW38+ Current Team
*Current team, not final. Final GW38 team will be posted at the top of the page.
NOTE: I’m kidding! Pulisic can’t play as a defender. Obviously I can’t start all 8 attackers. 🙂 Taylor or a new defender will come in and a midfielder or forward will either be benched or transferred out.
All the actual players in my squad are pictured above, so what’s the plan for GW38?
GW38+ Transfers
Transfers: 3 (-8 hit)
Transfers OUT: Taylor, Mahrez, Ings
Transfers IN: Pieters, Sterling c, Connolly
*Transfers depend on early lineups being released. For example, if Mahrez is benched, I may swap him out for Sterling.
⚽️ Keep an eye on @FPL_Rockstar on Twitter for early lineup news.
Raheem Sterling (17PTS).
Two goals from five shots on target and a missed penalty. Sterling was on a hat-trick and looked unhappy to be subbed off at 63 minutes. The extra rest would normally increase his chances of starting GW38. The concern is Guardiola throwing in a final surprise with his lineup.
⚽️ Only Vardy (23) and Ings (21) have scored more league goals than Sterling (19) this season.
Transfer Plans.
I’m currently toying with two ideas:
- Sell Taylor for a cheap defender.
- Sell Mahrez and Ings/Rashford/Jesus for Sterling and a bench forward.
Option 1. Straightforward defender swap, Charlie Taylor is a doubt. No transfer hits.
Option 2. Requires a -4 hit and sacrificing a player to free up funds: Rashford, Ings or Jesus. Ings needs two goals to have a chance at the Golden Boot, the concern is Sheffield United can be difficult to break down. Rashford didn’t play well, but his pace matches up well against Leicester’s center backs Jonny Evans and Wes Morgan. Jesus plays Norwich who have been on vacation since they were relegated.
I was considering benching Pulisic GW38, but I’ve changed my mind after his latest performance. Captain will likely be a Manchester City player versus Norwich. All final decisions depend on early lineups being released with probable late transfers close to deadline. 👍

Hello Bruno,
Thank you for giving all the tips throughout the season. I really appreciate your work.
This is my best season so far, 711k Overall Position. And thats all because of your tips. Thank you very much.
Firstly, What is Daily Fantasy? If you are adding Daily Fantasy content next season, I really want to know more about it through your YouTube channel and Website.
Now let’s rock the last GW of the Season!
You have 3 ManCity players in First 11. ManCity are now 15 pts ahead from the 3rd position. I think that Pep would do a rotation and play a much younger squad against Norwich (Relegated).
For Captain pick,
In my opinion, The best captain choices for this last GW are INGS, AUBA, VARDY.
But you know much better than me, I hope you dont take my tips seriously. Haha.
I am currently 2nd in 2 of my Local Leagues. The gap between me and the leader is small and I hope that i get BIG Points for GW38+.
This is my current squad and maybe my Final.
Transfers in : Tarkowski
Transfers out : Taylor
Bench Boost activated.
Pope,
Lamptey, Doherty, Pieters, Tarkowski
Pulisic, Fernandes, Salah, Martial
Ings (C), Jimenez (V),
BENCH : Martin, Greenwood, KDB, Simpson.
What do you think Bruno?
Lastly, again I would like to Thank You for all your tips, advices, cheatsheets, and everything that you gave to us. You are the Best Bruno!
And Goodluck for The Last GW of the Season!
Can’t wait to start a new Season!

Hello. That’s amazing, I appreciate your support. 👍
Daily Fantasy is similar to FPL except it’s not a season-long contest where you’re tied down to your squad. You have a set salary to select players that are scheduled to play that day. There are free and paid daily contests. One way to use DFS is to keep an eye on player stats to assess scoring potential in FPL. Since I’ve been using DFS as part of my FPL strategy, it makes sense to talk about it on Youtube and the website. In the United Sates, FanDuel and DraftKings are popular DFS sites.
Yes, Pep rotation could be brutal on the last day. City have such a deep squad with important players that the playing time for the starters could be limited.
It’s great to hear other people’s opinions. Although I like to come up with my own plan instinctively first, then I’m open to ideas. I’m certainly not an expert and the game changes quickly. Others can spot something I might’ve missed.
Your team is strong! Brave to go with less City cover, but your reasoning could surprise other managers and give you the advantage. In one of my transfer plans, I could go with two City players instead of three. I’m assuming you’re using a few non-playing bench players to free up funds for other positions such as KDB. I like it.
Small note that Lamptey hasn’t been as nailed-on as I’d have liked. I had him on my Watchlist for some time. Not many options in his price range, especially as attack-minded as he can be. Keep an eye on Twitter for possible early lineup leaks.
Thanks for sticking around! Makes me happy to hear that. Wish you big green arrows GW38 and I can’t wait to be back again next season!

Hi Bruno! one last request for help this season. after much tinkering i ve decided to keep attacking line as is and for def transfer 1 FT:

b. AWB
get
a. Pieters
b. Robertson (got Trent)
and why

Hi! I don’t know how you do it, but you always pull the decisions that make me think. I love it. Haha. 🙂
Transfers could be dependent on early lineup leaks unless price changes force your hand. Wait if possible.
Leaning toward keeping Doherty against Chelsea’s defense. He has been more attacking in recent games, pushing into the box and trying to score. We might not see clean sheets for DOH or AWB as all four teams are fighting for European places.
If Robertson is set to start, I would give him the advantage with his attack potential. A lot of pressure on Pieters and Burnley players to keep a clean sheet with Pope close to the Golden Boot. Pressure to score and pressure to concede are two different things.
You might be ok with whichever decision you choose, both sets could deliver similar total points.

Hey Bruno,
Thanks for all the content and advice this season. Helped guide some moves throughout first and second in my 2 mini leagues and 4th in country, 26 k overall.. Best of luck for the final GW!
The mini league I’m second in I’m trailing by 6 points, I’m on a free hit while the leader has no chips left. Tinkering with some options, let me know what you think. Any insight would be appreciated.
Option A
Pope (3.9 gk filler)
TAA – Aurier -Egan (Lamptey, Lundstram)
Sterling – KDB – Martial – Antonio (Trezeguet)
Jesus – Kane – Greenwood
Option B
TAA – Pieters – Aurier (Thomas, Lamptey)
Sterling – D.Silva – Martial – Salah (Trezeguet)
Aubameyang – Greenwood – Ings
Option C
TAA – Pieters – Aurier (Thomas, Lamptey)
Sterling – Foden – Martial – Salah (Trezeguet)
Aubameyang – Greenwood – Kane/Jesus/Vardy (0.1 missing for kane or jesus if going this route, but i can downgrade one of my benched players to accommodate)
My opponent’s team is: (he has 1 ft.. took a -8 last week)
Pope – Ederson
Azpi – Egan – Pieters – Soyuncu – Saiss
Willian – Salah – Fernades – Martial – D.Silva
Ings – Jesus – Rodriguez

Hey. Thank you. That’s incredible with your OR and standings in the mini leagues, congrats. 👍
No easy way for your H2H opponent to bring in Sterling as he already has 3 City players and two of them he may keep. That in itself could give you the points advantage, assuming he doesn’t move for Sterling with other changes.
Option A. Excellent. Matches up well against the H2H, Salah the main threat. This is the only option with KDB and I like Jesus+Kane up front.
Option B. Solid H2H cover with Salah and D.Silva, then Sterling for the difference.
Option C. Sterling and Salah with premium forwards gives you a high points ceiling. The risk is whether Arsenal and Spurs turn up on the day. Unless you go Jesus…
They’re all so strong! It really could be dependent on early lineup leaks, especially Manchester City. That might settle the final decision for you.
I would need to come back to it with more time to think. There are many elements including your opponent’s team and possible transfers, plus early lineup info that might point you in a set direction depending on who is benched.
The important thing is any of them should overtake your opponent.
Good luck!

Hey Bruno! With my Free Hit available, I’m using it. This is what I have so far.
Pope (Martin)
Pieters, TAA, Doherty (Simpson, Woods)
Fernandes, Sterling, De Bruyne, Martial, Antonio
Greenwood, Ings, (Connolly)
I have a ton of options and that’s the problem. Narrowing down to maximize potential points is My goal. I doubt I could win my mini league but I could possibly crack top 3.
Both Antonio and Pulisic are playing great. Odds are greater for Antonio against Villa even though Pulisic came on against Liverpool
ans had a goal and assist.
Options
A. Remove Antonio, bring in Pulisic (3-5-2)
B. Leave as-is
D. Remove Antonio & Connolly, bring in Guendouzi and one of the following forwards; going to a 3-4-3
Kane, Vardy, Jesus, Aubameyang, Rashford, or Jimenez.
Best to you this last GW!

Hey! Good advantage with the FH.
That’s funny. The comment before yours has exactly this issue, so many strong options. It’s a good problem to have, but it’s not easy to make the final cut on players.
The team is already strong. If you make a move, it could be interesting to take a bit of a gamble on the final day with a premium forward, maximizing the points potential with another high ceiling player.
Early Man City lineup info on Twitter would be key as you have a free spot for a third City player. I would also rate Rashford and Kane highly, so it could really come down to those early lineup leaks.
Good luck!

Hi Bruno
I hope you are well.
Cant believe it, GW38+ beckons, its the last day of the season…..really looking forward to it, super excited!
After some consideration, I have narrowed my GW38+ selection to 4 options.
Option 1(-4):
Pope, (Martin)
TAA, Robo, Aurier, (Doherty), (Lascelles)
Sterling, Salah, Martial, Silva*, Foden
Kane*, Ings, (Greenwood)
Option 2(-8):
Pope, (Martin)
TAA, Robo, Aurier, (Doherty), (Lascelles)
Sterling, Son*, Martial, Mahrez*, Richarlison*
Jesus, Ings, (Greenwood)
Option 3(-8):
Pope, (Martin)
TAA, Robo, Aurier, (Doherty), (Lascelles)
Sterling, Silva*, Martial, Fernandes, Mahrez*
Kane*, Ings, (Greenwood)
Option 4(-8)
Pope, (Martin)
TAA, Robo, Aurier, (Doherty), (Lascelles)
Sterling, Silva*, Martial, Fernandes, Foden
Kane*, Aubemeyang*,(Greenwood)
*-Transferred in player
1.Assuming all the relevant players do start/play which if the above team options would you prefer or how would you rate them?
2.Hopefully my players being transferred in are explosive enough to repay the hits?
3.Any other key players missing ?
4.Also do you think the correct players are starting/benched and Aurier to start over Doherty or not?
Also Greenwood to be benched?
5.My captain choice is either Sterling, Silva or Kane. Your recommendations?
I will naturally await for potential early team news before making final transfers.
Your insightful feedback would be appreciated.
PS: Are you planning to have a season review wrap up blog/ video after GW38+ or are you taking a break?

Hi. Doing well, thanks. I’m even more excited for next season! This restart has been strange with the new rules… 🙂
1. Prefer Option 1. Kane vs. Jesus is a tough decision. It could even be an alternate for Option 1 with Foden bouncing out depending on starting lineups. No standout preference from the other three although they are strong in their own way.
2. They are in every option. Maybe some added risk with inconsistency on Option 2.
3. KDB, but it might not be easy with your team structure.
4. I like the order, but it is so close between Doherty and Aurier. They have very similar scoring potential. Maybe a better chance of a clean sheet for Aurier. Greenwood is ok for the bench in these drafts.
5. All good options, leaning toward Sterling.
-Bruno
PS: Yes, I should have a final season review blog, although I don’t know exactly when.

Hi Bruno
Firstly, l hope all is well and like the rest of us we ALL appreciate the time you devote and your comments and thoughts, which l know must be difficult at times….
After bobbing around the 120k-80k mark for a number of weeks since the league resumed l have made some gains over the last couple of weeks and scored 81pts using my BB in GW37+, frustratingly l had 2 players missing penalties namely Sterling and Ings and D Silva and Saiss were none starters (Saiss was a surprise and missed a clean sheet) so a loss of around 20pts !!………but now at 55k OR.
Below is my squad with 1FT / ITB £0.0 / ALL CHIPS ARE USED
Pope – (Martinez)
Digne / Saiss / Doherty – (Fernandez / Holgate inj)
KDB / Sterling (c) / D Silva (v) / Martial / Fernandes
Vardy / Ings – (Greenwood)
So for the last push…….
# Leicester v Man U – both teams have all to play for, but l give the edge to Man U even if they looked a little jaded against West Ham, with Maddison out and some defensive injuries Soy/Chill/Pereira out Martial / Rashford and co should do well.
# Man City could well hammer Norwich and it’s Pep roulette as to who will play, but D Silva looks nailed as it’s his fair well, plus l feel KDB going for the assist record and captaining Sterling and hoping for a couple of goals and he might be used as a false 9 in place of Jesus??
# Chelsea v Wolves looks a tough game both ways and l can’t see a clean sheet there, so Doherty may have to make way so l can make my moves.
# Digne going against relegated BOU and Danny Ings at home looks solid.
# Burnley will go all out for a clean sheet for Pope’s golden glove.
# l am ignoring Liverpool and hiding behind the sofa LOL…….
# Arsenal v Watford looks great on paper for the Gunners but they looked awful against Villa and Watford are fighting for survival, will Auba prove me wrong?
# One game that stands out for me is Spurs v Palace, Palace have a number of injuries in defense and have looked very indifferent of late and Harry looks to be coming back to form, could he be a good differential against Auba?
My hand is being forced as l see Fernandes and Fernandez look to be dropping in price tonight, so my move is for a -4pt hit is………..
Vardy / Doherty OUT > Kane / Aurier IN (or Burnley double defense?)
Sterling will be captain.
Good luck for tomorrow and may your arrows be green!!
All the best

Hi. This season restart has been difficult, but it might be less about FPL and more about the changes to the game itself. All the stoppages in play are hard to get used to. And VAR…
That’s a fantastic update with your OR. 👍
I agree on Leicester United. I’m hoping for a wide open game with both teams going for goals.
Very possible with City. Jesus didn’t play well last game, looked a bit lost without a purpose.
Chelsea’s strategy must be to forget defending, just score more goals than the opponent. Not seeing a clean sheet, but GW38 can spring surprises. Instead of the typical goals, watch it be a lack of goals!
I don’t know how Salah didn’t score versus Chelsea. Actually I do because I captained him the week before when he also didn’t score! He is a top pick GW38, anything can happen.
Arsenal’s attack was non-existent against GW37. It could’ve been because of the effort in the FA Cup vs. City. Auba has a high ceiling, it could depend on the rest of the team.
There seem to be a few matchups like Spurs vs. Palace GW38. The smaller teams were more affected by the quick deadlines than the big clubs. They don’t have a dependable second string to step in when the regulars are out. It could be an opportunity for Spurs and other strong sides.
Liking the transfer plan. I couldn’t reply before the price changes, so I hope you finish the season with a top score. Good luck!

Hi Bruno,
Thank you for your great content and hope that you will smash it today. What do you think about the team above? My mind says that I should have a 3-5-2 formation due to the predictable high scoring matches – but however I se TAA as a “midfielder”.
I also considering swap Dilva and Robbie for Fernandes instead, to block in my mini leagues. What are your toughts?

Hi Bruno,
I hope all is well and that you’re ready for the final gw! I need your valuable expertise on my team:
Pope (Martinez)
TAA, Zouma, Pieters (Jonny, Lundstram)
KDB (vc), Sterling (TC), Martial, Fernandes (Saka)
Vardy, Ings, Greenwood
1. Who should I start with: Zouma or Jonny?
2. Use my 1 FT and simply replace Vardy for Jesus
3. Take a -4 and replace Vardy and Fernandes for David Silva and Kane/Auba
4. Any other weaknesses that I should address?
Between options (2) and (3), which would you recommend? I’m leaning towards (3) but am a little half-hearted in selling Bruno.
Lastly, it seems that FPL Rockstar has set his status to ‘Private’. Are there any alternative sites that you trust that may leak the final line-ups? FPL Scarface perhaps?
Many thanks for devoting your time and effort in providing valuable fpl content over the season and throughout the years Bruno.
Wishing you green arrows for the final upcoming gw 👊

Hi. No problem.
1. That’s a tough one. Not seeing a clean sheet for either side, so I might be tempted by the more attacking defender, Jonny. Anything can happen on the last day, so trust your instinct over anyone’s advice.
2. This one would be easier with early team news. We know what Vardy can do, so I’m hesitant to point you in a set direction.
3. If you make a change, leaning toward Option 2 that bets on a more reliable goal scoring team. Again, these are excellent ideas.
4. No other weaknesses. You have the right two positions to finalize.
I noticed that with Rockstar. Scarface account isn’t working. I don’t know of any others at this moment besides whatever pops up on my feed from the accounts I follow.
Best to make decisions ahead of time, then confirm the moves late on if possible. There is an added concern that the website can crash with high traffic close to deadline… good times!
I wouldn’t blame anyone for making transfers as normal and just going for it. 👍
Good luck!

Hi Bruno,
its always great to get your advice on fpl. has helped a lot over the past weeks. After a below average performance from my team (48 points), i have activated my FH for the penultimate GW. I have already made 7 transfers using FH
TAA>Robertson
Stevens>Simpson
Saiss>Bardsley
Azpi>Doherty
Mahrez>DSilva
Trossard>Guendouzi
Jesus>Auba
Ings>Kane
With this my current squad is :
Pope
Robertson, Bardsley, Doherty
DSilva(c), Martial, Bruno, Kdb
Greenwood, Auba, Kane(c)
Bench – Button, Guendouzi, Simpson, Taylor
How much ever i feel this looks good, but i am thinking of getting in a second Burnel defender as they will be all out to help Pope win the golden glove and with Chelsea needing atleast a point from the game to qualify, Doherty’s clean sheet is very unlikely. Another transfer I am thinking is of removing Auba, as Arteta might be needing him fully fit for the FA cup clash as that is the only Silverware for them this season and currently of high importance than PL. with this switch i guess i can upgrade Kdb to Sterling. Really need your help in this one. It would also be helpful if you have any other FH draft that i can leverage. Thanks again for your support.
Regards,
Aby

Hi. Glad to help, thanks for your support.
Your team idea has such a high ceiling, I’d be afraid to face off against it. 👍
Double Burnley at the back is reasonable. Pressure to keep a clean sheet is more difficult than needing to score.
Good point with Doherty. I wouldn’t anticipate a clean sheet, but it might be worth having a Wolves play who can contribute in the attack against Chelsea’s defense.
I wouldn’t be able to pick between KDB and Sterling as they both can score well versus Norwich.
I’ve rated other FH ideas in the comments below. Might be worth a quick glance if needed, but I like your plan.
Good luck!
