FANTASY PREMIER LEAGUE TEAM TIPS FOR 2019-20
FPL GW38+ Team
🚨 Final GW38+ Team! 🚨
***UPDATE: I’ve moved for Sterling captain. Pieters also steps in for the injured Taylor. -8 hit to end the season with players I want to watch. Thanks and good luck!!! 👍💯 -Bruno
Previous updates: Waiting for those early lineup leaks! Most likely moving for Sterling if he’s set to start. I want to play all my attackers! See the transfer plan below.
PS: Season review blog post to come after GW38. Then it’s a nice break before the next season!
Mixed Emotions
This is it! One last push before this strange season is finally over. I’ve been holding on to a lot of tension, and now I’m laughing at the ridiculousness of the last three Gameweeks. I’ve put down the pieces I dislike about Fantasy (VAR) to uncover something new to enjoy.
Top 100k was right there for the taking and instead it escaped my grasp in spectacular fashion.
Three setbacks in a row.
I put everything on the line with differential captains in the last three Gameweeks. I bought and captained Vardy for Bournemouth GW35. Vardy scored and Ake was injured before halftime, then red card Soyuncu! Bournemouth went on to score four goals costing Vardy three bonus points. Bruno Fernandes (5PTS) was the popular captain pick, Vardy (7PTS) outscored him but it wasn’t enough.
Next was Salah versus a depleted Arsenal GW36. Salah (2PTS) failed to capitalize on his chances when managers captained Sterling (1PT). It was brutal watching time run out for Salah after Sterling blanked.
Lastly, I bought and captained Ings for Bournemouth GW37. Ings scored and was set for three bonus points, then he missed a penalty! 13 points dropped to 4 and for his captainers, 26 points to 8! A swing of 18 points in an instant. Ings (4PTS) still managed to outscore the popular captain Fernandes (1PT).
Those outcomes were some of the hardest I’ve ever had to accept in twelve seasons playing FPL. I was so excited to take a chance and it was right there!
I’m left frustrated and overwhelmed. When this happens, I ask myself, “Where is the silver lining?”
Silver lining.
I don’t know how to say this, so here it goes. In the same time I was losing in FPL, I was winning in Daily Fantasy. Two first place winners, one runner up. Money doesn’t solve problems, but I would be lying if it didn’t soften the blow. Daily Fantasy is a helpful tool for FPL and you don’t have to risk money.
These websites are useful to study which players are performing well and have good scoring odds. It took me at least a year before I started investing in Daily Fantasy. The learning curve can be costly. ⚠️
Behind every setback is an opportunity, I’m finding other pieces of the puzzle to enjoy.
⚽️ I’m considering adding Daily Fantasy content and stats next season. Does anyone else play DFS?
GW37+ Points.
⚽️ Upper 90 Studios dropped from 220k to 285k in the Overall Rank. Big red arrows with a -8 hit.
GW37+ Review
Let’s break down performances top to bottom.
Nick Pope (6PTS).
Another clean sheet for Pope who has a chance at becoming the first goalkeeper outside the ‘top six’ to win the Golden Glove award.
⚽️ No goalkeeper has more clean sheets in the league than Nick Pope (15).
Alexander-Arnold (13PTS).
How many defenders can concede three goals and still return double digits in FPL? Giving away a free kick just outside the box when Alexander-Arnold is on the pitch is almost the same as a penalty. You just feel like he’s going to bury it. A goal, assist and maximum bonus for my team’s top scorer GW37.
⚽️ No defender has more goals (4) or assists (15) than Alexander-Arnold this season.

Matt Doherty (12PTS).
Wolves kept out Crystal Palace with Doherty’s assist earning him all three bonus points. Only two defenders have provided more assists than Matt Doherty this season, Alexander-Arnold and Robertson. If Wolves fail to keep a clean sheet against Chelsea, I’m hoping for more attacking returns from Doherty on the final day.
Christian Pulisic (9PTS).
There was no sign of injury when he came on, so why did Lampard bench Pulisic in such an important game? Chelsea were on the ropes, then Pulisic came on and changed the game. Liverpool defenders couldn’t get near him when he set up Giroud. When he scored, that’s when I went from crying to laughing knowing I benched him in FPL and used him in DFS. 🙂

The bad.
Bruno Fernandes (1PT). Misplaced passes and giving away possession cheaply – his worst performance in a United shirt. Fernandes also got involved in an off-the-ball incident that could’ve resulted in a straight red card. He has an opportunity to bounce back GW38 against Leicester’s makeshift defense.
Riyad Mahrez (1PT) and Marcus Rashford (1PT). Mahrez was benched and looked disinterested when he came on. Rashford had a poor game and Solskjaer had enough when he yanked him off for Ighalo in the late stages. To rub salt in my wounds, the players I sold for hits delivered returns. Salah (5PTS) and Greenwood (9PTS) had plenty of chances and I’m fortunate that they didn’t score more points.
Charlie Taylor (0PTS) and Jamaal Lascelles (0PTS). Injured at the worst possible time. No urgency to replace them either with just one game to go. I’m swinging for the fences. 🔥💯
GW38+ Current Team
*Current team, not final. Final GW38 team will be posted at the top of the page.
NOTE: I’m kidding! Pulisic can’t play as a defender. Obviously I can’t start all 8 attackers. 🙂 Taylor or a new defender will come in and a midfielder or forward will either be benched or transferred out.
All the actual players in my squad are pictured above, so what’s the plan for GW38?
GW38+ Transfers
Transfers: 3 (-8 hit)
Transfers OUT: Taylor, Mahrez, Ings
Transfers IN: Pieters, Sterling c, Connolly
*Transfers depend on early lineups being released. For example, if Mahrez is benched, I may swap him out for Sterling.
⚽️ Keep an eye on @FPL_Rockstar on Twitter for early lineup news.
Raheem Sterling (17PTS).
Two goals from five shots on target and a missed penalty. Sterling was on a hat-trick and looked unhappy to be subbed off at 63 minutes. The extra rest would normally increase his chances of starting GW38. The concern is Guardiola throwing in a final surprise with his lineup.
⚽️ Only Vardy (23) and Ings (21) have scored more league goals than Sterling (19) this season.
Transfer Plans.
I’m currently toying with two ideas:
- Sell Taylor for a cheap defender.
- Sell Mahrez and Ings/Rashford/Jesus for Sterling and a bench forward.
Option 1. Straightforward defender swap, Charlie Taylor is a doubt. No transfer hits.
Option 2. Requires a -4 hit and sacrificing a player to free up funds: Rashford, Ings or Jesus. Ings needs two goals to have a chance at the Golden Boot, the concern is Sheffield United can be difficult to break down. Rashford didn’t play well, but his pace matches up well against Leicester’s center backs Jonny Evans and Wes Morgan. Jesus plays Norwich who have been on vacation since they were relegated.
I was considering benching Pulisic GW38, but I’ve changed my mind after his latest performance. Captain will likely be a Manchester City player versus Norwich. All final decisions depend on early lineups being released with probable late transfers close to deadline. 👍

Olá Bruno , made 67(-4) with to bench players coming in : Baldock for Saíss , Antonio for David Silva , and I was hoping that Richarlison entered for AWB but he Gave me 1pt instead and Richarlison stayed benched . And a failed Rashford (c) .
Tuesday I was at 380k but now 420k but still got green arrows .
I’m thinking Mahrez for captain the final week .
Learning a lot with you . Good luck !!

For me in the United States it is FanDuel. But there are others. The important thing is to not spend money, instead use these websites to study which players are performing well and have good scoring odds.
For example with FanDuel, a more expensive player can mean better scoring potential. But it’s not always a rule as we just saw with Antonio, Pulisic and Greenwood GW37.

Hi Bruno
Thanks for sharing your personal experience the past few weeks. I understand the roller coaster you went through…..similar to an early disallowed VAR goal being celebrated when scored….. a twist in the tail…..🙃
Lets hope GW38+ gives you a positive twist with a major silver lining🙂
My post lockdown run move up continues, up to 384k OR now, after being over 2m pre lockdown.
GW37+ 95 points, with Sterling captain was a big game changer for me.
Ive modified my strategy post lockdown to focus on multiple easy fixture form top players.
In order to plan my GW38+ Team some points for you to consider:
1. Is there any source you aware of to release early team news?. FPL Rockstar already said he is not.
2. Is Raheem Sterling a must have and likely to start?
3. Is David Silva a good option to include?. Perhaps he might be on penalties and be a “Silva lining”😀 if given lots of opportunities in last PL game….
4. Kane vs Aubameyang- Anyone a must have for GW38+ or both?. Worth it to have both by transferring out Salah for a – 8 hit.
5. Best captaincy options or how would you rank them?:
a) Sterling
b) D Silva
c) Kane
d) Aubameyang
e) Salah/Son
f) Any others
6. Which 2 Man United players would be better to start in team:
a) Martial and Greenwood or
b) Martial and Fernandes
Thank you for all your excellent blogs and video content throughout the season. Your content has been amazing and has definitely helped me a lot.
Im hoping to get at least to 250k OR if possible and with some luck maybe close to my best ever rank of 170k…..you think a 210k places move up is possible?.
Would appreciate your valued feedback, as always.

I meant to mention in point 4 that for the -8,Salah is transferred out for D Silva, besides Kane and Auba transfers in.

Hi. Thanks! That’s true with VAR. I’ve stopped celebrating goals. My reaction is to wait until the replay then I’ll go, “It looks like a clean goal” or “VAR is checking this…” 🙂
That’s a fantastic bounce back in the OR! Well done.
1. @FPL_Rockstar is the only one I trust. There is a new account, @FPLScarface, but I don’t follow them and it will take a while before I make decisions based on their info.
2. He’s a top pick with a good chance of starting after being subbed early. Never know with Pep.
3. Certainly worth considering. If Sterling plays, I would imagine Silva will have to pry the ball from his hands on penalties.
4. Maybe the smallest edge to Kane after their very last performances? Both have high ceilings and high points swings depending on which delivers to his potential.
5. A, E, tie between C, B, D. United attackers such as Rashford/Martial are other options.
6. That’s a tough one after the last game. B might have a slightly higher points ceiling and lower risk of being subbed early.
Your team just scored 95 points. Another big score and anything is possible. 👍
Thanks!!!

Currently i have

sterling dsilva martial fernandes grealish
jesus greenwood auba
getting confused to bring kane for auba OR to keep auba .
Please suggest changes for free hit team

Hi. It seems a key question this Gameweek, Kane vs. Auba. It’s hard to point you in a set direction for one key reason:
They are high ceiling players capable of delivering big hauls. If one gets hot and the other blanks, it can be a massive swing in points.
I can only say what I saw in their last two games. Arsenal looked flat in the attack, Aubameyang failed to create a single chance. Keep in mind Arsenal players worked very hard in their deserved win over Manchester City in the FA Cup. There is a nice little recovery period before GW38… “nice” when compared to what we’ve had, not the usual week of rest.
Kane and Spurs were dangerous in the attack, but I’ve had a hard time trusting him and Spurs for FPL in recent seasons.
I like the idea at the back. Keep an eye for early lineups on Twitter.
Mids are set. Grealish was back to his best in the last game and becomes a quality option just in case.
I like your team idea already. Just the one decision up front which may need time to consider all the factors. Then wait for any early lineup news before going for it.

Hey Bruno,
I have a free hit saved up for this week, and with gw 38 usually being high scoring I am looking to pump as many funds into my attack as possible, and I am pretty settled on my core however there are a few players I’d love your opinion on.
Here is my current core:
GK: Martinez (frees up funds for attackers over Pope + I have a Burnley defender)
DEF: Digne, Pieters
MID : Sterling KDB Mane
FOR : Kane Wood (great value for 6.2 to free funds on big players)
These 8/11 are the core I am pretty settled on, however I am a bit stuck for the final 3 players, here are the current trios I am considering:
Trio 1: Ings (golden boot race but tricky SHU defence) + D.Silva ( farewell game so teamates might want to get him some goals/assists) + Bardsley (another Burnley player as the team spoke abt wanting to get Pope the golden glove)
Trio 2 : David Silva + Antonio (great form but villa will be fighting for their lives) + Aurier (spurs have looked good in recent weeks defensively and Aurier offers attacking support )
Trio 3 : Antonio + Martial ( utd were poor Vs chelsea but martial has been on great form ) + Branthwaite ( easy fixture on paper for Everton and hes a guaranteed starter for only 4 mill due to injuries but might b risky to double up w digne as Everton are quite unpredictable)
I am considering also letting Mane go to maybe upgrade wood to Jesus or maybe a high value defender or something like that but you wouldn’t put it past an upbeat Liverpool to smash Newcastle who have nothing to play for. Another risk I am taking is removing Trent as whilst he offers a high points potential, there is a risk of rotation as we saw a few weeks ago with Robertson being benched for neco Williams and for 7.5 mill I’m not sure Trent is worth the risk when I know someone like Ings will guarantee a start for a similar price. Also, I have omitted a lot of the high selected players such as jimenez And fernandes as they have tougher fixtures whilst players like Antonio, wood, david Silva and ings for a similar price have easy fixtures so I’m hoping that doesn’t backfire.
Mane ( Salah is a similar case but Mane has looked sharper recently imo and is cheaper so I’m going for him) is the main issue I have in my core as to whether I play him or not, so would love to hear your opinions on him as in a weird way he could be a great high points potential differential.
Anyway, would love to hear your opinions on my current core and whether you recomend I change anything up and I wld love to know which trio you think will return the most points.
Thanks, love the content as always bro 👌
Upper 90 Studios
24/07/20
Hey. GW38 has been a high scoring round so it makes sense.
Trio 1: I like this with Ings fighting for the Golden Boot. Sheffield United can be stubborn to break down, but overall they’ve been below their best since the restart. D.Silva is a top option for the reasons you mentioned.
Trio 2: Agree with your points. Thought Villa were excellent defensively against Arsenal. They will work hard as a team.
Trio 3: Can understand the value with the defender. Up to you to double up, Everton are hard to assess, hot or cold.
They’re all great options that could result in similar points totals. Maybe the smallest edge to Option 1?
As far as Mane, he’s a high ceiling player. I’m hesitant to point you in a set direction because we can see big points swings when dealing with premium assets. I might also include Salah and Son into the mix, but it’s not required to change. Liverpool will want to finish on a high and Newcastle are dealing with injuries. It’s a similar case with Son’s opponent, but Palace can tighten things up as a team.
The core is ready. Just a few final decisions and optional drafts to compare to yours.
Thanks for the comment. 👍

Hey Bruno!
You have been a great discovery for me this season – I really love the way you share valuable information and the cheat sheets 🙂 I really hope next season you can bounce back – I’m sure you will!
This season has been a rollercoaster for me. A couple of weeks before the league suspension I was around 7k OR, but that’s where things started to go downhill. A couple of unlucky calls like getting Mahrez and captaining him the GW when the league was suspended (City had a DGW – he played like 10 mins the first game and the second was canceled).
After the restart, I’ve been forced to do a lot of transfers that I wasn’t expecting at first. Aguero injured the first GW and I had Captained him. Leno got injured. Soyuncu red card. DCL in awful form. Geez, I could go on.
Anyways, I made some good decisions along the way too (Antonio), and right now I’m sitting at 39k OR.
My team is looking like this for GW 38: Henderson / Bardsley, TAA, Aurier / KDB, Fernandes, Son, Antonio / Greenwood, Rashford, Ings. Bench: Leno (I decided not to use a transfer here), Doherty, Foden, Baldock. I also captained Ings last GW – that penalty was incredibly frustrating.
I’m strongly considering Dilva for this GW. No chips left, and only 1 free transfer.
Anyways, It’s been a great ride, and I wish you all the best next season! I know you’ll have tons of green arrows.

Hey Adolfo! That’s great to hear, thank you for the nice words. 👍 The cheatsheet was strong, can’t wait to get back on it next season.
Know what you mean with the season suspension. It stopped the momentum for my team, it had best Overall Rank as I prepared for a big blank with hits. It never came and the games were called off.
39k OR is fantastic, good work. 👊
Ings was a huge points swing! It’s such a punishment to deduct points and take away bonus for a penalty miss. He scored the game winning goal and missed out on bonus.
Your team is so strong that it won’t be easy to squeeze in D.Silva! Good problem to have.
Appreciate your season update, and I’ll talk to you soon.

Kia ora Bruno
Sorry to hear about the rough weeks – but thanks for all your advice this season. In my first season last year I finished around the 2M mark but this year, with your tips, I’m at 143K coming into the last round. I had a similar silver lining – benching Antonio but putting a first goal bet on him that came off….not that I want to do much betting or spend many $ on that. This week with just 1FT and 0.2ITB I’m thinking of selling Fernandes for D Silva, and picking Antonio as a differential Captain. Line up as below. What do you reckon? Other moves, such as for Kane or Auba would mean taking a hit. Thank you, Davina
Pope (Schmeichel)
TAA, Doherty, Lamptey (Ward, Fernandez)
Martial, KDB, D Silva (VC), Antonio (C) (Foden)
Jiminez, Vardy, Ings

Kia ora. Wow, that’s an incredible OR at this point! I’m happy for you.
That’s funny with Antonio. I would say that at this point, it’s about trusting your instinct. You won’t want to finish with red arrows because you didn’t go through with your ideas.
It’s not easy to improve your team, and you have Foden on the bench which is a good problem to have.
I might make a move for Sterling and captain him vs. Norwich, although it would be ideal if there were early lineup leaks to be sure. He was pictured at the beach on a mini vacation for a few days before Sunday.
Looking good, I wish you big green arrows.

Hey Bruno!
Firstly I would like to thank you for all your tips and advice throughout this season and beyond. I’m also a huge fan of your Songs. Since I started following you I’ve been getting huge green arrows till now although this virus interrupted and disorganized set down plans and strategies but all the same, You’re doing a very great job! Keep it up!!
Secondly, I’m planning on using my triple captain in this GW38+ and I’m tempted to use it on Gabriel Jesus although he hasn’t been making huge expected returns of late but I feel he’ll be very involved in most goals against Norwich meanwhile I still have KDB, Mane to choose. I’m just hoping that Guardiola doesn’t spring up surprises in his starting lineup against Norwich because I’m sure if he starts his Strong XI, Norwich stands no chance!! and also City will be looking for a revenge against Norwich who beat them 3-2 earlier this season.
This is my current team; (3-4-3)
Ederson (Button)
Pieters, Bardsley, Gomez (Simpson, Woods)
Fernandes, Mane, KDB (VC), Martial (Dendoncker)
Greenwood, Vardy, Jesus (C)
Team Summary;
Ederson (I’m hoping for a maximum clean sheet points for city against a weak and relegated Norwich)
Pieters, Bardsley, Gomez (I’m hopeful of at least attacking returns from either Pieters or Bardsley if Burnley doesn’t manage to keep a clean sheet and on the other hand i just pray Gomez doesn’t get another Yellow card that will reduce his maximum clean sheet points if Liverpool manage to get a clean sheet against Newcastle.
Fernandes X Martial (I’m hopeful that these two might combine to get goal scoring chances OR at least if one of them ends up to have a bad game I pray the other doesn’t just like what happened in GW37+)
KDB (VTC) ( If he starts, I’m pretty sure of a double digits haul from him although he was unlucky not to get anything from his start against Bournemouth)
Mane (Despite not being In his top form, I still feel he has the capability to spark up a surprise at any given time than his other mate, Salah)
Greenwood (Coming off a hard fought draw and scoring the only goal that gave united a point last time out, I feel he will be going all out against in the final game against Leicester to prove more reasons why he should still remain in the man united first XI come next season)
Vardy (Performing below expectations in recent games despite always starting, I feel him also would go into this final match hungry to score more goals to keep him clean in the top scorers chart bearing In his mind that he would win the Golden boot for the 2nd time in his career)
Jesus (TC) (Also performing below expectations since Bournemouth’s game knowing fully well that he bears the full burden to score goals every game as a 9. I feel he’ll be going into this last match against Norwich as huge morale boost to prove a point to Pep that he’s capable of replacing Aguero. I’m choosing to Triple Captain him this GW because he’s a major threat in the box with his legs and Head.
That’s my summary Bruno! What do you think of my team? I’d also like to hear your thoughts about my Triple Captain idea and who you feel I should triple captain instead.
I await your reply!
Upper 90 Studios

Hey! That’s so good to hear. Thank you and I’m happy that you like the songs! I’m working on a new one this week.
The league suspension disrupted so much in FPL. The chips became less effective, managers took hits before a blank Gameweek that never came, so many things. It’s a learning experience for the future.
Good points with City. Guardiola said he wants to reach 100 goals this season. They need 3 vs. Norwich.
GK+DEF are set. This is a massive game for United with Champions League at stake. Both teams might go for it which would work with your picks.
Agree on KDB, top pick if he starts. We known what Mane can do. Greenwood looked sharp last game.
I love it overall. The only note is whether to consider Sterling, but this requires changing up your draft which is already strong. Trust your instinct. And also keep an eye on @FPL_Rockstar on Twitter for early lineup leaks.
Good luck!

Hi Bruno!
I am thinking of doing a -4,
Boly, Mahrez, Rashford out
Tarkowski Sterling Connoly in
Starting eleven:
Ederson
Doherty Tarkowski VVD Maguire
Pulisic Antonio Sterling Kdb Bruno
Jimenez
And Also the triple captain on Sterling, im about 20 points behind my mate in mini league and he Also have Sterling, I think that i need to take him in and hope on like 2 Goals so I take points on my mate. What do you think of that idea? Pulisic i want because he looked so good, i have differentials to my mate like Antonio,Pulisic,Jimenez,Tarkowski and The triple captain on Sterling. Do you think its the best option to put the armband on?
Thx

24/07/20
Hi! I like the plan strengthening two starting spots as a calculated gamble.
TC Sterling is reasonable. High ceiling, subbed early last game, insurance for your mini league.
Agree on Pulisic. I was set to bench him on the final day, then he did that vs. Liverpool.
I would keep it as you have it with a note to keep an eye on early lineup leaks for City in particular.

Hey Bruno,
I have bench boost chip inactive till last GW. Now, I’ve activated it. I want to make sure all of my players starts. Will Klopp bench Liverpool players like Salah and TAA?
Here is how my team looks:
Pope
Laporte TAA Doherty
Salah Fernandez KDB Foden Pulisic
Ings Greenwood
Bench:
Krul Calvert-Lewin Stephens Lundstram
I have two free transfers. £1.6 in the bank. I’m thinking about transferring in Reina replacing Krul. I’m thinking about finding a replacement for Calvert-lewin too. Who would you recommend? But I haven’t come to a decision because I don’t know if Salah and TAA will start. I’m having doubts about KDB Foden and laporte too. What will you recommend? What transfers just to be in the safe side?
Thanks a lot for the help you’ve given me this season. I’ve improved a lot. Good luck on the last GW wish you big green arrows.
Upper 90 Studios
24/07/20
Hey. Difficult to predict what Klopp will do, so it’s best to keep an eye on @FPL_Rockstar on Twitter for lineup info.
I like the idea with Reina as Villa looked solid defensively against Arsenal. They are playing a smart game and hitting teams on the counter.
DCL is probably the best option in his price range. Even if early lineup news throw in a few surprises such as Origi starting, I might give the edge to DCL. I’m not logged in at the moment to check prices, but Chris Wood is another option depending on funds.
Traditionally, GW38 can have strange benchings that throw us off in FPL. No major concerns with your current squad, although Lundstram hasn’t been starting so this one is up to you.
Good luck!
