FANTASY PREMIER LEAGUE TEAM TIPS FOR 2019-20
FPL GW37+ Team
🚨 Final GW37+ Team! 🚨
***UPDATE: Final team barring any late news. Going a defender short for one Gameweek. All out attack with Pulisic on the bench. If there are lineup leaks GW38, I can use this squad like a Free Hit chip, picking from eight strong attackers depending on who is set to start. Ings is set as captain in case of any surprises in the FA Cup. Thanks and good luck!!! 👍💯 -Bruno
Going All-In
Despite all the setbacks leading up to and since the season restart, I’ve stayed true to selecting the Fantasy players I’m excited to watch.
Bending the rules.
To make up ground in the Overall Rank, I captained Salah instead of the popular Sterling GW36. Salah was facing an Arsenal side resting their regulars while Sterling played 90 minutes in his previous game and was at risk of rotation with the FA Cup. I’m not thinking in terms of courage, I’m measuring the risk. That risk must give me a sense of excitement, and that’s why I’m going all-in GW37+ once again. With two of my defenders (Taylor and Lascelles) ruled out for the season, my team is now a defender short.
I have to do something drastic to have any chance of reaching the top 100k. Should I take a -8 hit and go a player short with just two Gameweeks left in the season?
⚽️ When traditional solutions aren’t working, bend the rules to tackle difficult problems.
GW36+ Points.
⚽️ Upper 90 Studios climbed from 225k to 220k in the Overall Rank. Smallest green arrows ever.
GW36+ Review
Let’s break down performances starting with the player transferred in last week.
Gabriel Jesus (8PTS).
Jesus made a superb goal look easy as he skipped past defenders in the box and curled his shot around the keeper. Two shots on target and twice brought down in the box. Up next, Watford and Norwich.
⚽️ Gabriel Jesus is averaging 10 points per game in his last 3 games (3G, 2A).
Anthony Martial (8PTS).
Healthy competition between teammates is a positive. Martial has been working with Rashford to score as many goals as possible for the team. It’s all setting up nicely for a GW38+ clash between Leicester and United for the fourth Champions League spot. They’re tied on points, Leicester lead by three goals on goal difference. If both teams win their remaining games, United will need to take chances and score.
⚽️ Fernandes – Martial – Rashford could be the best United trio in FPL.

Matt Doherty (4PTS).
Off the bench chaos. Doherty inadvertently wiped out clean sheets for Patricio, Saiss and Boly while collecting points for an assist. To be fair, it should’ve been 1-1 seconds before the penalty when Chris Wood missed a free header. Was it even a handball? Doherty instinctively raised his arm to protect his head from a high boot.
Raul Jimenez (9PTS).
WHAT A GOAL! 🚀 Brilliant power and technique on the volley, maximum bonus. Last week I missed out on his points from the bench. This time KDB was fully rested and I’m grateful for Jimenez’s contribution. Bench points are always a positive even when the players don’t come on.
The bad.
Charlie Taylor (1PT) and Jamaal Lascelles (0PTS). I was using these two bargain defenders in a rotation system, now they’re both out! Taylor chased Adama Traore for 29 minutes before pulling up with a hamstring problem. Lascelles is out for the season. It’s another challenge when making up ground, so I may go for broke fielding just two defenders GW37+ and leave this problem for GW38+.
Alexander-Arnold. 2, 1, 0 are Trent’s returns in his last three games. Maybe his next score will be negative as he should’ve been sent off for a shin-high challenge that left Aubameyang confused.
WTF didnt Even get the VAR on this one
— Aubameyang P-E (@Aubameyang7) July 16, 2020
Mo Salah (2PTS, Captain). Salah has been working hard, but what’s the point when Firmino and Oxlade-Chamberlain are walking? After Sterling came on for a 1-point cameo, this was a massive chance to make up ground in the Overall Rank! I’m so disappointed with Liverpool. They’re lacking in concentration after clinching the title and I’m moving in a different direction.
GW37+ Transfers
Transfers: 3 (-8 hit)
Transfers OUT: Salah, Greenwood, Jimenez
Transfers IN: Mahrez, Rashford, Ings
*All transfers are confirmed. It will be fun watching the FA Cup before the new players feature for my team! 🙂
Riyad Mahrez (1PT).
Benched against Bournemouth, no guarantees of a start in the last two games. The success with Gabriel Jesus made it easier to roll the dice on another City player for the run-in. The idea with this triple change is to maximize points potential with high-ceiling players. Which player combination within budget can deliver the highest returns in the last two games? Forget the hits, I’m going for goals with Mahrez, Rashford and Ings and expect nothing less than 60 points per Gameweek from this threesome. 🙂
⚽️ Riyad Mahrez has been directly involved in 7 goals in his last 7 starts (3G, 4A).
Marcus Rashford (12PTS).
A goal, an assist and maximum bonus points. I brought Rashford in with the Wildcard, then sold him! I was drawn to Martial with Greenwood when the solution might’ve been Martial AND Rashford. It’s a decision I regret, but it’s easier looking back now.
⚽️ Marcus Rashford has 3 goals and 3 assists in his last 6 games.
Danny Ings (7PTS).
Southampton had just five shots against Brighton in the first half. As an Ings non-owner, it looked promising! Then they turned it on. Southampton finished on 21 shot attempts including an Ings effort that came off the woodwork. Ings is eyeing up the Golden Boot and faces Bournemouth next. Captain?
⚽️ Only Jamie Vardy (23) has more league goals than Danny Ings (20) this season.

GW37+ Current Team
*Current team, not final. Final GW37 team will be posted at the top of the page.
Going a defender short for one Gameweek. All out attack with Pulisic on the bench. Strong bench cover is important as we saw with Jimenez in the last two rounds, and it might have another advantage. If there are early lineup leaks GW38, I can use the deeper squad like a Free Hit chip, picking from quality options available depending on who is set to start. Ings is set as captain, but I may switch it to Rashford.
VAR Transparency

VAR, water timeouts and ten subs. What is happening to the game? The officiating at Man United versus Crystal Palace was incomprehensible. When Zaha was brought down in the box for a penalty, the officials and VAR ignored it. They then spent minutes manipulating lines on the screen to rule Ayew’s goal offside by a toe. Why was only one of these incidents a clear and obvious error?
- Referees are excused from making decisions because of VAR
- VAR officials are hesitant to go against the referees
It’s easy to see why there are so many glaring errors in the officiating with VAR.

Hi Bruno,
I am also having terrible luck with my defensive injuries. With lascelles and taylor out injured. Aurier might not feature because of personal reasons and alonso who might be benched against liverpool, i am only left with one nailed on defender on boly. I did TAA to alonso transfer as a one week punt, which somewhat worked out. I had a pretty good gw with 65 points. Below is my current team. What transfers would you suggest?
Pope (Button)
Alonso, Aurier, Boly (Taylor, Lascelles)
Mane, Bruno, Martial, Sterling, Pulisic
Rashford, Jimenez (conolly)
Below are my thoughts. All for -4
1) Alonso and Pulisic —> Pieters and Mahrez
2) Alonso and Pulisic —> Tarkowski and Dilva
3) Alonso and Aurier —> Tarkowski and Pieters (triple burnley defense)
I will most likely captain martial because of his home form. Let me know your thoughts on transfer moves. I am around 50 points behind ML leader so i am okay with taking risk at this point.
Thanks

Hi. Thanks for the team update, thought I was alone with the defender situation. That’s incredible timing with your defenders.
1) I like this option. Pieters can be attacking, although Burnley’s scoring potential could drop slightly if Rodriguez is out. Mahrez has one of the highest ceilings in the game and that’s a reason why I’ve moved for him. We all know the concern, Pep roulette.
2) Tarkowski has an edge over Pieters, I prefer Mahrez over Silva for the final two games.
3) I’m not sure about this one, so trust your instinct. Burnley continue to lose key players like captain Ben Mee and Charlie Taylor. Even Kevin Long was down holding his knee in the last game, although he seemed to shake off the knock.
Between 1+2, maybe the smallest edge to 1 but you know the risk when gambling on rotation. I like the captain choice. 👍
Congrats on the score and good luck.

Well good week because I brought in David Silva for KDB and captained him, not so good because I sold Kane to get Salah while keeping Auba who was surprisingly benched. I feel you shouldn’t be regretting your greenwood transfer, you knew what you were getting at just 4m+. Need a one week punt to replace Giroud, will free hit gw38 so only need gw37 fixture to be good. I’m chasing right now so want the player with highest points ceiling.
The team is:
McCarthy
Alonso AWB Mendy
Salah Foden DSilva Fernandes
Auba Vardy Giroud
Bench: Foster Lamptey Lascelles Guendouzi
Have 2.5m itb and 1 ft but wouldn’t mind a hit anyways
Giroud could go all the way up to rashford, but cheaper options like wood and ings are interesting options too. Could also do Alonso and Giroud to Kevin Long from Burnley and Kane.
For each option:
Rashford – Form pick, fixture isn’t as good as Wood or Ings, has posted good numbers for a while now, so the haul wasn’t surprising at all. However, I’m afraid of a potential injury. (for a while now, which is why I haven’t tripled up on man united attack) this is not so much due to the fa cup, but more because of the way Solksjaer is managing his players, it’s well known you shouldn’t start the same 11 (other than Shaw who got injured seemingly due to overexertion and Matic who got dropped) 5 times in 15 days, it’s only going to result in fatigue (as seen with Bruno) or injury. (rashford earlier in the season)
Jimenez – not the best fixture, not really good stats, does not strike me as an explosive option
Wood – tough one, have been looking at him for a while now (was on my watchlist) missed a great chance against wolves, good at heading, playing against Norwich, the fixture pick. However, recently returned from injury and Burnley are more of a 1-0 team, prefer the player with higher points ceiling (ownership does not matter to me)
Maupay – another one with a good fixture, but Brighton haven’t been good, really nothing to play for, prob not as good a fixture as Wood or Ings
Ings – another fixture pick, but has the form too. However, I think Watford’s loss has given Bournemouth a massive boost in terms of survival hopes, as Watford face man city and arsenal (auba chasing golden boot and arsenal have decent form) in their remaining two while Bournemouth face Southampton and an out of form everton and they could go play like they did against man city. Ings also doesn’t have the best xG, which makes me feel hesitant about him (compared to rashford, Kane and wood)
Kane – fixture seems p gd (makeshift Leicester defence, loves playing Leicester, decent xG since restart) Again, I’m hesitant on bringing him in. We know he’s capable of a hat trick, but didn’t even play that well against Newcastle. (I sold him before Newcastle) seems like record against team don’t matter much, owned him for arsenal and everton, 2 teams he loves playing against, looked sloppy against Arsenal, only started playing well after arsenal conceded 2nd goal and stopped trying to defend.
For captaincy, would be between kane (if I bring him in) , auba, salah, dsilva, rashford (if I bring him in) , bruno, foden. Which player do you think has the highest points ceiling for captaincy and Giroud replacement?
Looking forward to your reply.

Good to hear it worked out with Silva. 👍 You’re right about Greenwood, I got caught up in the excitement at the time and wanted Martial. Rashford was playing well despite not scoring…
I like your style. Going for players with the highest points ceiling.
Wood has a great matchup against Norwich. The concern is his injuries and lack of full match rhythm. He can often be the first player subbed off when things aren’t clicking in the attack. Still, he’s a solid pick.
Kane didn’t play well despite the brace. I’d rather invest on players I’m excited to watch so this one is up to you. Kane is a game changer who can score from nothing.
Ings was incredible in the second half against Brighton. As a non-owner at the time, it felt like a matter of time until he scored more goals or delivered an assist. Southampton completely bossed Brighton after the break. Bournemouth have motivation, but there’s also potential to be caught on the counter which is exactly how Ings scored his last goal.
Rashford has been close to big numbers for some time. Now the goals are going in. The negative is the FA Cup and possible injuries. Fatigue is less of a factor with young players like Rashford 22 years-old. At that age I could play 90min every other day, at a very different level though… 🙂
I might say it’s between Ings and Rashford for the replacement and captaincy. Ings might be a bit safer if you factor in the FA Cup and risk of injury/fatigue. Although Southampton don’t have much of a recovery period before their game either. Everyone is managing this strange season restart in the best way possible.
Good luck.

Hi Bruno,
I like your attacking mindset – I’m also thinking of just leaving my defence alone, despite TAA’s blanks. In last 2 gameweeks I’ve been up as high as 135K and back to 162K, so a good boost overall, thanks to owning Antonio. I also got 51 points this week – captained Willian which didn’t pay off and I may sell him for D Silva this week, who I really want by last game. Another option could be to get McNeil or Woods (though which striker to swap him for is a question) for Burnley’s game against Norwich this week. Any thoughts re other potential tweaks – team as below Cheers, Davina
Pope (Schmeichel)
TAA, Doherty, Lamptey (Fernandez, Ward)
KDB, Foden, Antonio, Fernandes (Willian)
Vardy, Ings (C), Jiminez

Hi. Thanks. It was a good gamble on Willian last game and I can see the idea with another City player for the run-in.
I like Chris Wood against Norwich for his heading ability against Klose. The concern is his injury record and overall conditioning. When Burnley have an off-day in the attack, he can be the first player subbed off.
No major concerns in your team. GK+DEF are ready. Captain is set.
The only additional note is to keep in mind Rashford or Martial. Of course there is a risk with the FA Cup before their league game and we have to factor in hits. This could be a better option GW38 when they fight for the 4th Champions League spot vs. Leicester.
I might agree that it could be Willian at risk in your transfer plan. Then up front, possibly Jimenez who now has a lower ownership threat. Even if he scores after selling, it won’t be as damaging to the Overall Rank as it was just a few Gameweeks ago.
Glad to see your rank within striking range of top-100k.

Hey! Thanks!!! This is a strange season, so don’t put any pressure on the Overall Rank.
It’s easy to forget everything that happened right before the season was suspended. In my case, I took hits in the two Gameweeks leading up to a blank GW31 that never happened. That crushed my rank and I’ve struggled to recover since.
Thanks for the message and good luck!

Hi. Good strategy with the FH.
Maybe you can build from this lineup for GW37:
Pope (Henderson)
TAA, Doherty, Stevens (Garcia, Lascelles)
Sterling, Fernandes, KDB, Pulisic (Cantwell)
Rashford, Ings, Greenwood
Since you’re using the FH GW38, you don’t need to bank a free transfer this round. With no major concerns in the starting eleven, you might consider tightening up the bench – Lascelles is out for the season.

Hi Bruno
I got 55 pts in GW37. My captain choices were Bruno Fernandes ans Mohamed Salah. I swith the armband between them and it seems like i am unlucky because when i take the armband to Salah he doesn’t score them next GW i change it to fernandes he’ll still still not score. So i don’t wany this to happen again pls. Who do you think i should Captain this GW? Martial, Fernandes or Rashford?
Awaiting response….
Thanks Bruno

Hi. Solid score in another strange week where many key players blanked. Know exactly what you mean with Salah! What an opportunity to make up ground in FPL.
Not an easy decision because all three can do well. First thought is between Martial and Rashford who are more explosive at this moment. I’m going for a more aggressive strategy for the final two Gameweeks, so it depends on your playing style. Fernandes is a safe option if you’re happy with your Overall Rank.
I’m currently giving an edge to Rashford, but it’s your call on this one. No worst feeling than a captain decision not working out when you went against your own instinct.

Hi Bruno, respect for going all in for GW37+ !!
I will use my BB chip this week would appreciate your tips on how to best proceed.
Current team below:
Pope, Martinez
Doherty, TAA, Aurier, Säiss, Lascelles
Salah, KDB, Foden, Martial, Fernandes
Jesus, Greenwood, Connolly
2 FTs and 1.8m ITB.
I am willing to go all in as well, e.g. -4 or even a -8 if needed. I will do FH next week.
Many thanks and no problem at all if you don’t get a chance to respond.

Hi. Thanks! It’s already a strange season, might as well try different things.
Nice that you have the chips, should be a great advantage.
Pope, Martinez
Doherty, TAA, Aurier*, Säiss, Lascelles*
Salah, KDB, Foden, Martial, Fernandes
Jesus, Greenwood, Connolly*
Don’t know if Aurier will return from France in time for GW37, so that’s a difficult decision. Lascelles is the only other main concern in your squad.
Players to consider. Tarkowski versus a weak Norwich in the air. The worry is Burnley continue to lose key players like captain Ben Mee and Charlie Taylor. Matt Ritchie is interesting if he can stay fit for the final two games.
Connolly actually frees up funds for other positions. You could be ok keeping him, unless you make a move for Ings in his place. That will require a cut in another attacker and I can’t select the player because they can all do well. That one is up to you.
To strengthen the FH next week, consider a £3.9m backup GK. Then you might be able to pick between Rashford and Greenwood after seeing them in action.
Thanks for the comment. 👍

Hi Bruno, appreciate your thoughts on the team. Looking too made 3 transfers this week
Pope (Martin)
Dougherty, TAA, Taylor, Pieters (Simpson)
Mane, KdB, Foden, Pulisic, Fernandes
Inges, Jiminez, Greenwood
Thinking Liverpool has mailed it in, so selling all Liverpool players to fund:
Mane out for Martial; Greenwood out for Jesus; TAA out for either Stevens or Saiss. Would appreciate your thoughts.
Also, I still have my triple captain (I thought I used it, need new glasses). So should I use it this week and on who? Or wait until next weekend.
Thank you.

Hi. GK+DEF are set despite Taylor’s absence.
Salah and Mane are trying, but their teammates could be on vacation already. Henderson is another influence that’s missing.
Martial is in the form of his life, hungry to score with every attack. Man United have to score lots of goals in order to beat Leicester to the final CL spot on goal difference. Jesus is a top option while Aguero is out. TAA is tricky because we know what he can do, but he hasn’t been returning points since they clinched the title.
Since you already have Doherty, I might almost say Stevens. But I’m not completely caught up on all the games from GW36 and did not watch the Sheffield United game. I watched Wolves and Burnley should’ve scored prior to the penalty.
I’d hate to point you in a set direction with the Triple Captain chip and it doesn’t work. We’ve already seen big points swings with the TC earlier in the season (Salah vs. Mane). If you do use it, Ings is a reasonable option with no FA Cup risk.
