GW14 Review.
GW14 points: 71PTS (AVG 60). Upper 90 Studios dropped from 95k to 110k in the Overall Rank.
The Results.
Emi Martinez (6PTS). West Brom were held to one shot attempt in 90 minutes. Villa play Crystal Palace next, then enter a run of games against three attacking sides: Chelsea, Man United and Tottenham. Will fixtures affect their momentum?
⚽️ With back-to-back clean sheets, Martinez is now the highest scoring goalkeeper in FPL.
Tariq Lamptey (0PTS). Not available due to a hamstring problem. With my team structure and a weak bench, I need reliable starters. Not sure who’s to blame here, me or Lamptey. 🙂
Stuart Dallas (5PTS). How many defenders can concede six goals and still score 5 points in FPL?
Ben Chilwell (1PT). Rolled his ankle just 3 minutes in. With the short recovery time between games, will Chilwell be fully-fit?
Bruno Fernandes (34PTS, captain). Made up for his captain blank the previous game with a top performance. Two goals, an assist and two bonus points. Up next is a midweek League Cup game followed by a well-drilled Leicester side GW15.
Kevin De Bruyne (5PTS). Desperately needs Aguero and Jesus back to their best. Fully-rested in the cup midweek, Newcastle at home next.
Son Heung-min (2PTS) and Harry Kane (2PTS). ❌ Quiet first half, then they raised their game but it was too late. Spurs have been outplayed by Liverpool and Leicester in their last two games. Even so, Kane and Son have had opportunities to register returns, although not as many as I was expecting! They’ve pushed through a difficult spell of fixtures, now their fixtures turn green.
Patrick Bamford (6PTS). Could’ve easily scored two goals and somehow ended up with a blank! Leeds have a unique attacking nature and will always create chances for Bamford.
Calvert-Lewin (5PTS). His assist was actually a header that bounced off a defender for an own goal. Everton lacked some of the drive without Allan in midfield, but still earned three points against Arsenal. The question is whether Everton create enough chances to produce returns in FPL.
Jack Grealish (10PTS). Two assists and a sneaky bonus point. Grealish continues to show consistency in a team that looks as if they can score with every attack.
⚽️ In the past 5 seasons, no player has created more chances away than Grealish vs. West Brom (8).
GW14 Standouts.
Anthony Martial (12PTS). Failed to score and only registered one assist between GW1 and GW12. Since then, one goal and four assists in his last two games.
Raphinha (8PTS). Assisted both goals for Leeds. We may see a rise in his production as he settles into the Premier League.
Mo Salah (16PTS). Made everything look so easy, especially the second goal which he curled into the top far corner. The scary part about this performance is he came off the bench! Had he started, there was an opportunity to break FPL scoring records.
Roberto Firmino (16PTS). No pressure from Jota has triggered a boost in Firmino’s confidence.
⚽️ Firmino has three goals and an assist in his last two league games.

Hey Bruno,
Great to see you doing so well. 110k is so good at this point in the season.
I got a massive score of 90 pts this week taking my team up by about 900k(was in a pretty bad rank before obviously:) . I have just started playing fpl seriously this season and so am very confused about whether I should use any chip or not. I read somewhere that this is potentially the biggest dgw this season so was keen on using bench boost.
This is my team-
Martinez (Mccarthy)
Dias Chilwell cresswell (Dallas Mitchell)
Salah Fernandes KDB Grealish Bowen
Bamford DCL (Brewster)
1free transfer £1.0 ITB
I think with -4 hit at max I might be able to setup a BB team for gw19 and freehit in gw18. However I am not sure if that’s right to do. I have this team in mind for BB
Martinez Mccarthy
Dias Chilwell cresswell Dallas Taylor
Salah Fernandes Raphina Son Bowen
Bamford DCL Vardy
Thoughts? How does it look gw20 onwards?
Thanks in advance

Hey. Thank you. That’s amazing, 90 points and nearly a million rise in OR.
The BB chip is a quality option for DGW19. I didn’t have a chance to consider it because my bench has been completely ignored all season. But I will take a closer look. Since I haven’t considered (yet), I don’t have all the info to give a proper assessment of its potential at this moment.
Now that I’ve seen your plan, a -4 is more than reasonable to use the Bench Boost GW19, especially the team you’ve built. 👍
I don’t see any issues, only positives. -Bruno

I’m going to watch your video now but before that let me just say that it was my best GW this season !
93pts ( without KDB or Bruno )
Now the planning begins .
I used the free hit on the villa Blank so I don’t know if I TC ou BB in gw19 .
Abraço e boa sorte

Olá. That’s amazing! 93 points is a huge score especially without the two premium players. 🙂
It depends on how you build the team in preparation for GW19. Compare a few drafts with both options in mind.

Hi Bruno,
Great video as always. Thanks for insights.
Posted some questions in your GW14 post, figured you might have missed it.
For GW15, would you play Bednerak over Socuek?
I got a couple of questions regarding the FH chip and was hoping you could shed some light into.
I am aware that you aren’t able to make any transfer if you are doing a FH. With that in mind, does that mean you could make early transfers and as many as you want, and then hit FH chip just before the deadline and that would wipe all the hits away?
If so, what happens if you made an early transfer, then theoretically, the player rises 0.2. In a normal case, when you then transfer the player out, you net a 0.1 profit. What happens when you then hit the FH chip? Would you use lose that 0.1?
Likewise, if 20,000 managers transferred a player in or out, causing their value to rise/drop respectively. What happens when the said 20,000 managers hit the FH chip after that? Would FPL re-calculate this and revert the price change?
Cheers.

Hi. Just saw it. Here’s my copied/pasted reply from the previous post:
Bednarek vs. Soucek is so close. I wouldn’t be able to choose at this moment without thinking it through with more time. I’ll have to check up on Brighton’s GK situation, not completely caught up on all the games.
The FH chip works just a Wildcard, so yes. If you make multiple transfers for hits then confirm the FH, then the FH wipes out any hits.
That’s a good question. I believe the FH will revert your team to what it was right before any of those transfers were made. Unfortunately I don’t think it can be used in the way you thought of, but that is a genius idea. I’m not 100% sure, so be sure to check around.
The Free Hit works like a Wildcard. I believe active FH transfers shouldn’t count toward price changes. Double check to be sure. 🙂

Cheers for the reply Bruno. Yeah I get that active FH transfers shouldn’t count toward price changes. But prices rise and and fall with normal transfers. So if these managers don’t use the FH chip till the very last moment, Wouldn’t FPL registered them as regular transfer in the days leading up to FH hit being used? That in turn would definitely cause price changes in these players. Just curious.
Merry Christmas to you and your family. Hope you guys have a great holiday!

Any transfer would definitely cause the prices to change if they don’t activate the chip until close to deadline. I don’t know what would happen when they finally activate it… does it take away a transfer in the new threshold for the player’s price changes?
Like if 1000 managers bring in a player, don’t activate the FH chip, he rises in price. Then they all activate the chip on Friday, he could suddenly be at -1000 net transfers. It won’t be enough for him to drop back down in price though. He has a long way to go for the price to change again. He just crossed the threshold and needs +100k or -100k net transfers for example to change again.
Prices change in the background as normal while on a Free Hit. You can definitely take advantage of price changes with a FH and Wildcard if the player rises in price twice and you cash out on the 0.1 profit before deadline. It doesn’t happen often as players rising quickly are typically the ones I end up keeping on a Wildcard…
Never really thought about it all. 🙂
I would think the majority of managers simply activate the chip or Wildcard early in the week to be safe, but I don’t know what actually happens with certainty.
Thanks, you too! -Bruno

Hi Bruno,
Nice video. I have WC, i think about this time for DGW and BGW.
Fabianski, Steer
Dallas, Robo, Justin, Coufal, Douglas(3.8)
Salah, Bruno, Son, Neto, El Ghazi
Adams, Bamford, Vardy
Can you give me some advice, what your team look like, if you have first WC?
Greetings from Serbia

Hi. Thanks. My team would look a lot like yours. 🙂
Struggling to improve it. I like El Ghazi on current form. If he fails to maintain these levels, keep an eye on Raphinha as well. One issue could be Douglas as he’s a Leeds player and you can only have 3 from one team. But I can understand the 3.8 to allow other improvements.
That’s the only note. I wouldn’t change anything for now.

Hi Bruno,
Because this will be my first BGW and DGW, I don’t really know how to plan for this two GW… I have my BB and FT available but don’t know if it’s worth it. Here is my squad right now. Can you please give me some advice? Thanks in advance and I wish you happy holidays!

24/12/20
Hi. Your current team is strong. One idea could be to use the FH chip GW18 as a few of the big-hitters in your current team will be off (Salah, Fernandes, Robertson, Leeds).
Then the team will revert to this core of players in time for DGW19 when they will have two games.
Other DGW19 players to consider could be Coufal and Che Adams, maybe a premium striker like Vardy (or Martial depending on form). But I’m not sure how to make that change without playing with the transfers and writing it all down like I did on the video.
Nothing to worry about. Happy Holidays!

Hi Bruno,
Thanks for the video! Would love you thoughts on my current team:
McCarthy
Dallas Taylor Walker-Peter’s
Salah(C) Son Fernandez Zaha
Kane DCL Bamford
I was going to save my transfers but last week I captained Kane and had a 70k red arrow! Now I’m thinking to transfer out Kane and Zaha for Adams and Stirling for -4. What do you think? I’m a bit scared not having city player against newcatsle!! Appreciate the advice and content bro. Have a wonderful Christmas!
Upper 90 Studios
24/12/20
Hi. You’re welcome! I can see the concern with City vs. Newcastle. That’s a nightmare decision.
If Kane hadn’t played 90min midweek, I might be even more inclined to suggest keeping him. I have him in my team and think he could still score against a shaky Wolves defense. Kane scored in the cup midweek and should’ve had an assist to Son that was incorrectly ruled out for offside. Spurs are now entering a run of favorable fixtures, the question is if they can handle the workload with short recovery times. That’s an unknown.
I like Che Adams as well. Sterling can be a hit or miss sometimes, not the easiest to assess. Great when he’s scoring and he has a high ceiling.
I feel for you because it’s such a difficult decision when swapping premium players. I can only add some thoughts, but I would have to say I don’t know. Sorry!
Thank you and Merry Christmas! -Bruno

Hi. No problem! Looks strong overall. Zaha has some pressure to deliver after the 7-0 defeat. Not seeing other issues at this moment.
DCL has a tricky fixture vs. City next week, so keep an eye on Che Adams as an extra DGW19 player.
Minor notes only. -Bruno

Hi Bruno,
Thanks for all the double gameweek advice. My team is currently set up as:
Gk: Martinez, Button
Def: Cancelo, Coufal, Dallas, Vestergaard, Ferguso
Mid: Salah, Fernandes, Grealish, Kdb, Bissouma
Att: Bamford, DCL, Watkins
Plan to free hit in Gw18 and no BB in Gw19. Considering a – 8 to transfer out Kdb, Watkins and Cancelo/Vestergaard.
I’m struggling to decide on the below:
1. Bring in Robertson, but take out Cancelo or Vestergaard?
2. Take out Watkins/KdB, but who to bring in. Either Adams/Son OR Kane/Raphinha?
Would be nice to hear your thoughts?
Upper 90 Studios
27/12/20
Hi. No problem.
1. Not an easy one. I might say it’s a tie between Robertson and Cancelo. The only small risk with Cancelo is rotation with Pep, but he’s been excellent. For DGW19, I’d give the edge to Robertson. Head to head vs. Vestergaard, Robertson should win.
2. Watkins was also good. Another tricky one! Leaning toward Adams/Son. Adams was unlucky not to get returns. Raphinha has been doing well, but I didn’t like seeing him subbed off a bit early. Both Spurs players are coming off blanks, Son provides better value.
The question is whether to take a big hit now or spread the risk over a few rounds.

HI Bruno,
I still have 1st wildcard and planning to wildcard in GW16, FH in GW18, Bench Boost GW19. I have DCL (bought him at 7M) and he does not have 2 games in GW19.Is DCL of worth keeping considering he blanked against SHU in GW15 and has not been scoring for a while. The downside of selling DCL is losing 0.5M and he has good fixture in GW21 (has to probably need to pay may be extra 0.4M to get him back then). Any opinion on whether it is worth to keep DCL for next few GWs?
Upper 90 Studios
27/12/20
Hi. I had DCL and dropped him before SHU. One reason was Everton haven’t been creating enough chances, although to be fair, he is an efficient finisher.
Once key Everton players return from injury like Digne and James Rodriguez, I’m open to bringing him back. For now, my plan is to push through DGW19 without him. If he continues to blank, his price could drop 0.1m to 0.2m by then.
There is a risk with a player that can score with limited chances, so it’s up to you! 🙂
