No bench. Swapping premium players. KDB wasn’t even my vice captain! My team has been right on the edge of collapse. Am I weaker when I get things wrong, or stronger because I took a chance?
GW13 Review.
GW13 points: 59PTS (AVG 42). Upper 90 Studios climbed to 95k in the Overall Rank!
The Results.
Emi Martinez (8PTS). Stellar debut on my team with a clean sheet and four saves which earned him an extra bonus point. His bonus alone matched Edouard Mendy’s total after I dropped him (1PT).
Tariq Lamptey (6PTS). I nearly took a -4 hit to drop him! It’s now two Gameweeks in a row that I dodged serious damage to my team by sticking with Plan A instead of the more involved Plan B.
Stuart Dallas (7PTS). Love him. 😍 Leeds scored 5 goals against against Newcastle and it could’ve been more. Next up, Manchester United which will stir up an old rivalry. Hopefully no fireworks…
Ben Chilwell (5PTS). Strong performance after a few games of being outshined by Reece James. Chilwell is always eager to get down the wing and has an excellent target for his crosses in Giroud.
Bruno Fernandes (4PTS, captain). Quiet game in which he tried to sneak the pass in behind but failed to find the target. To make matters worse, Telles took over some free kicks and corners! That’s now two captain blanks for my team in 13 games this season, both Man United players. ❌
Kevin De Bruyne (4PTS). The first 80 minutes weren’t good enough from City, despite West Brom putting up a real fight. Similar to Fernandes with Telles, Gundogan (and Foden) took over set pieces which affected KDB’s potential. Two brilliant crosses in added time, 2 bonus points. City must be more clinical in front of goal, although the return of Sergio Aguero might change things.
Son Heung-min (9PTS, vice captain). One-on-one with the keeper, trademark finish. As mentioned on the previous post, Liverpool’s high defensive line could benefit Son. Once he snuck in behind, there was no catching him. Set piece duty increases Son’s potential as he creates chances, and he was rewarded in the Bonus Points System versus Liverpool. With decreased ownership in the #Elite64 league (stats below), especially as a duo, Son and Kane continue to deliver as a combination differential against strong FPL managers.
⚽️ Son and Kane are the top scorers in FPL with 114 points and 109 points respectively.
Jack Grealish (3PTS). Villa were dangerous in the attack. The problem was when Grealish and his teammates made eye contact with Nick Pope, the final shot ended up in the top stands. 🙂
Patrick Bamford (6PTS). I’m calling him Bamfordinho from now on. 🇧🇷 Consistent returns from a player who began the season at just £5.5m. I love when he takes one touch and the next movement is a quick shot that catches everyone off guard. After seeing Sheffield United score two against Man United, Leeds might play without fear at Old Trafford.
Calvert-Lewin (5PTS). Everton showed supreme confidence against a strong Leicester side and deserved the three points. The absence of Jonny Evans played a part as Fofana felt the pressure. There was however one negative for Everton. Allan went down with what appeared to be a serious hamstring injury. If he’s out for a long spell, the impact could be significant. Iwobi has stepped in for Digne, Sigurdsson for James Rodriguez… Allan is the engine in the midfield, he drives the team forward and his energy is contagious. He might not be as easily replaced.
Harry Kane (2PTS). Mistimed header from a Son corner, two similar chances in the last two games! Liverpool were on their game and made it difficult for Spurs and Kane to get any rhythm. Next up for Spurs, Leicester. Recovery ahead of the weekend is crucial as both teams looked tired GW13.
⚽️ Kane has scored 16 goals in 10 appearances against the Foxes, more than any other team.
GW14 Top Cheats.
Mo Salah (7PTS). Looked sharp in the first half and deserved his goal. Quieter in the second half which is normal given the workload in December. Even though I can bring Salah back without a hit, my team still produced solid green arrows without him. At the moment, I don’t have a concrete plan for Salah, but I’m staying flexible just in case.
Pedro Neto (9PTS). 🇵🇹 Fun player to watch. Neto has everything to become a proper FPL asset:
- Dribbling ability
- Finishing (goals)
- Set pieces (assists)
The only potential obstacle could be the fixtures. Wolves’s next three opponents are Nick Pope, Tottenham and Manchester United.
Marcus Rashford (14PTS). Powerful runs, confidence and composure. Rashford may once again find space in behind defenders when United welcome Leeds to Old Trafford.

Captain.
This one could go to the wire! Bruno Fernandes is currently set as captain GW14 to exploit the gaps as Leeds commit players into the attack. But I could change it to Harry Kane with his scoring record against Leicester, 16 goals in 10 games is hard to ignore…

Vardy to Bamford… What is your opinion? Also about Mahrez n DCL who do you think will excel this weekend? Can’t wait to hear opinion.. Need some expert opinion since I am at 1.3M from 130k at gw 6…
Upper 90 Studios

Vardy is one of the hardest players to assess because he can explode for big points any game. He hasn’t been rested while Bamford was subbed a few times for a breather… Bamford’s facing United and they are also difficult to predict. I might say they have similar scoring potential overall, Vardy has a higher ceiling (also penalties).
Mahrez vs. DCL… I would also rate them with similar potential! I’m curious to see if DCL will be affected by Allan’s injury, his absence could be an issue for Everton in the transition from defense to attack. It could be easier for Mahrez owners to keep him than for non-owners to bring him in. Same with DCL.
Sorry, it’s not easy as there are many unknowns even before we consider the inevitable rest/rotation.

Hi Bruno.
As always – thanks for the great content!
2 questions:
1: Aguero – do you think We should start considering him as a viable option yet?
2: Is it worth brining in a West Ham player in GW 16 in preparation for GW19
thanks

Hi. Thanks! 1. Guardiola hinted that he may not be fully ready just yet and he didn’t train for a day or two after the West Brom sub appearance. But he looked sharp and full of energy which caught my attention. At the higher price points, we can consider consistent minutes vs. rotation risk. For now, I’m keeping a close eye on him.
2. Smart to look forward and sneak in players that could deliver between now and then. Depends on what you’re feeling with West Ham… Last season I tried planning for blanks and double gameweeks well in advance, something I’ve never done before and it didn’t work. Doesn’t mean it won’t for others this season! 🙂
Thanks for the comment.

Hi Bruno.
The past couple of GW’s, I didn’t made a lot transfers. A couple, but not significant or important ones. Just changing bench players, for the sake of just “using that 1 free transfer” (i have 2 transfers in the bank for weeks now..). It feels my team is settled and I really don’t know what to do. Here’s how my team is lining up for GW 14:
McCarthy
Coufal Zouma Stones
Son Grealish Fernandes Salah Bowen
DCL Vardy
Bench: Forster, justin, brewster, nkounkou
What on earth should I do? I’ve been thinking about bringing in KDB versus So’ton high line, but for who and how can I make that transfer happen?
Maybe Vardy OUT, but i believe he can score a goal vs Spurs.. and he’s a differential in my mini-league..
Do you have any creativity you can help me with? Thanks a lot in advance.

And is Aguero worth a punt for Vardy..? Could Aguero be playing versus So’ton?
Upper 90 Studios
18/12/20
Aguero looked sharp when he came on vs. WBA. Then just this morning, Guardiola said Aguero didn’t train for a day or two after that game. That’s enough for me to hold off for now, but it’s worth keeping a close eye on. Pep has been stressing that they must score more goals.

Hi Christoph. That seems like a good problem to have, touching up the weaknesses.
That’s the dilemma with the premium players, especially this season. There’s no easy way to bring in the one we’re missing without sacrificing another. Some tried a compromise with Jota and Mahrez for value and it didn’t quite come off. Straight up swap seems the way to go at this moment.
Minor note to keep an eye on Stones with Pep’s rotation, although you have proper cover with Justin (may need a breather soon?). No change required just yet.
I’m only seeing two possible options: straight swap premium players, or huge cuts to the outer edges of the squad to bump up one of the mid-priced midfielders… that’s super risky and may require big hits unless you can spread transfers over time. By then you might not want the players you’re eyeing now.
I can see Vardy being the one to potential go, but I understand your concern with his potential. I don’t know if he will score this weekend. I noticed he and a few other key players ran a bit out of steam GW13, like my captain!

Ola Bruno.
Great content and so far a congrats-on a great season.
quick question on suggested lineup and captain for my team below and a transfer – 1free with 1m in the bank. (i dont mind a minus 4 but leaning to saving cause i took a hit for the past gw
vVardy and Lookman the issues maybe i will need a defensive transfer like Kilman or Ayling to a suggestion.
Martinez,
Robbo/Chilwell/Lamptey/Ayling/Kilman.
KDB/Rashford/Son/Lookman/Bissouma.
Vardy/DCL/Adams.
Thank you all the best
Upper 90 Studios
18/12/20
Ola. Thank you. Ayling has had less freedom to attack in the last 3-4 games which affected his potential. His stats were similar to Dallas prior to the change. Keep an eye on Fulham’s Robinson or Charlie Taylor for value. Small note that fullbacks may need rest at some stage with the extra work up and down the wings.
Lookman feels close to scoring points and just falls a bit short at the final moment. He could become a proper option in FPL with time and may be worth a gamble even now.
Vardy is a nightmare to assess. If he scores a penalty, it could easily be a solid return. Options to consider in a similar price range are Kane and Soucek. The problem is when to make the switch. If you’re not quite sure, you could always tighten up the outer edges of the squad.
Keep a future plan in mind for Salah if needed which may require cuts to key positions. I’m taking it game by game at this busy moment.
Thanks for the comment and good luck.

Hi Bruno!
Thanks as always for your content.
I’m working on a plan going forward, hoping you could give you advise on it:
Current team [0,7 ITB]:
Meslier (Steer)
Robertson, Lindelöf, Targett (Cresswell, Mitchell)
KDB, Salah, Grealish, Fernandes (Soucek)
Wilson, DCL, Bamford
What I am considering is using to transfers before gameweek 16:
Grealish –> Son, Robertson –> Dier [Todays prices: 0,9 ITB],
and perhaps Wilson –> Adams GW17
Free hit chip on GW18
This would lead me to this team for the DGW 19:
Meslier* (Steer)
Dier, Lindelöf*, Cresswell*, (Targett, Mitchell)
KDB, Salah*, Son, Fernandes*, Soucek*
Adams*, Bamford* (DCL)
* = DGW
Triple caption chip on DGW19 on Salah
The reasoning for Grealish to Son, which is a transfer not leading to a DGW-midfielder is Sons better overall fixtures in this period.
The issue is doing Robertson -> Dier, which is a downgrade in the sense that Robertson is A) Better asset, and B) has a superior DGW. One possibility is going for Reece James instead, but I’m considering Dier to get an overall higher sum in this period – but considering ownership, I’m against public opinion on this one :).
What’s your take on all this?
Thanks again! 🙂
Upper 90 Studios

Hi, no problem! I’m really liking your future plan to anticipate all the possible changes you mentioned. Chips plan makes sense. 👍
We’re on the same page with the strategy. It’s an easy comment to reply to because you’re in perfect control of the team. I can’t improve it.

Hi Bruno
What is your plan to navigate blank gw 18 and double gw 19?
We have very similar teams (only difference i have Salah over KDB), i was thinking of free hiting in gw 18 since i didnt use any of the chips expect first wild card.
Anyway wish u big green arrows with Fernandes as a captian 😀

Hi. Leaning toward something similar to the commenter below, or above, can’t remember where they show up. 🙂
My plan is to find the best balance between maximizing points before the BGW/DGW, and to build a team by GW17 that takes advantage of DGW19 (Free Hit GW18).
I haven’t had a chance to take a proper look at the fixtures yet, but that’s the initial idea.
Thanks, good luck! 👍

Hi Bruno. Hope all is well. Quick question on who to captain. Coming down in my mind to Kane and his scoring record v LC or Salah v CP or Son v LC. I am leaning Kane. Appreciate your thoughts.

Hi. I’m still undecided between Fernandes who should be a popular pick along with Salah, versus Kane captain differential.
Some rumors that Salah could be rested versus Palace, but it’s nothing from an official source. If Salah starts, he’s a top pick on current form. He also has scoring potential from the bench.
Leicester’s style is a good matchup for Kane. Mourinho may play a low block once again which can be effective against teams with less possession like Leicester while reducing the counter attack threat. Against teams like Liverpool, they may eventually make a mistake and be punished. If Leicester push forward and commit players in the attack, they could get caught at their own game with Son’s pace and Kane never far behind. Kane was wide open for Son’s goal vs. Liverpool, but Son took it himself.
I still have it on Fernandes for now, but it’s 50/50 with Kane and I’m struggling to pick one for my team. Might sleep on it and make the final decision first thing in the morning.

Hi Bruno
I hope you and your family are enjoying the snow…….
My GW13 yielded 49 points, with smallish red arrow, thats two very small red arrows in 2 weeks.
My main lesson learnt is, being ultra conservative with transfers doesnt give you a rise in rank and to sometimes follow your gut….Rashford was my possible gut transfer, that I didnt make.
I have though brought him in for GW14. Similar to Kane he goes on streaky runs and plays well during the festive season.
Which of the following two player combinations would you rate higher?:
Option 1: Son, Grealish and bench warmer(4.3m nonplaying forward)
Option 2: Son, Giroud and bench warmer( 5.0m mid- Lookman/ Soucek)
Captain choice : I am considering between Salah, Kane and Bruno in that order. How would you rank them?
Your valued feedback and insights would be appreciated.
Upper 90 Studios
19/12/20
Hi. Rashford has a high ceiling depending on the opponent. Leeds should be a good match for his pace in behind as they push forward.
I’m looking ahead at Grealish and the upcoming fixtures. It could be an opportunity to go against his high ownership in the #Elite64. Giroud is great when he’s playing regularly. The question is whether he’s truly safe from rotation, although I can see the idea with a nailed value mid for cover.
I’m still thinking about Grealish and it’s partly dependent on the weekend’s games, so it’s hard to choose one at this moment.
I might rate all three with equal scoring potential. The unknown is player fitness and possible rest. No guarantees that any of them will start GW14. I believe Salah started 4 games in 10 days, but he did spend some time out with Covid. Bruno has also been pushed in multiple competitions, benched vs. West Ham which is not much. Kane might’ve had a small breather in the Europa League, but he works hard every game.
No issue with your captain order. I’m still 50/50 between Kane and Fernandes. If I had Salah, I would be split between the three! I can see it going to the last few minutes before posting the final decision for my own team.

Ola Bruno,
Great to hear about your very good gw score. You are set for a strong season!! I myself had an okay gw with 51 points (47 with the hit). Had a small green arrow from 164k to 161k. Below is my current team and transfer thoughts. Please let me know your feedback
Martinez (Button)
Chilwell, James, Dallas (KWP, Fodder)
Salah, KDB, Bruno (C), Grealish, Soucek
Kane, Bamford (Brewster)
Martinez was my highest scorer for 2 consecutive weeks. Double Chelsea defense not paying off like it was few weeks ago and was a frustrating week with captain KDB and grealish. Below are my transfer options/thoughts. I have 0.9 in the bank
1) KWP —> Maguire or Dias. I am mentioning Maguire just because Leeds seem to concede from set pieces every single game. Can fancy Maguire scoring from a header. Dias because City are set up very defensively with 2 dms. With this transfer, i can bench Dallas this week against united.
2) Do nothing and roll the transfer.
Please let me know your thoughts and feedback. Also, would appreciate if you could post your thoughts and plans regarding upcoming blank and double gw.
I hope you have a great gameweek. Thank you as always!!
Upper 90 Studios
19/12/20
Ola. Thanks! We’re neck and neck really, it’s a narrow gap in points between our ranks.
Martinez is a beast and I’m glad to have joined you there. I did cut one of the two Chelsea players at the back, in my case it was the GK Mendy. If forced to choose two at the back for Chelsea right now, I’d pick Chilwell and James, not Mendy. Of course, they have pressure to deliver at their price and Chelsea hit a rough patch in the last few games. The form of Werner and Havertz hasn’t helped.
KDB is missing Aguero. Grealish and Villa attackers were wasteful in front of goal.
1) Liking your sneaky pick Maguire. He does power through everyone in the box. 🙂 I’d need to check his clean sheet potential over a longer period. Dias is a bit harder for me because I haven’t been focusing on City defenders. I’ve noticed others moving for City defenders, I’m not quite as caught up. One factor that kept my attention away is Pep rotation, although Dias is less affected. I did notice that Rodri hasn’t been playing well, so I wonder if Guardiola will try something different with his setup. Possibly more attacking to score goals?
2) I also like KWP because of Southampton’s playing style. The fixture isn’t great GW14, but he could be ok after.
I don’t know the final decision, but those are the thoughts for now. Thanks, you too!
-Bruno
PS: I’ll be sure to post some ideas for the upcoming blanks and double gameweeks soon. For now, it looks like Free Hit GW18, building a decent side for DGW19 but not going too overboard if certain SGW players are in good form.

Hey Bruno. I am pretty confused about the transfers this week.
Option A – chillwell to dier/James which will free up the funds for
Grealish to son ( will have to take a hit for that)
Option B – Save the transfer for executing plan A next week without a hit. Spurs face wolves next ( dier clean sheet possible ) and Aston Villa face crystal ( good time for grealish to son)
Please help!!
Upper 90 Studios

Hey. Not an easy one because I understand a move for Son. I have considered dropping Grealish next week, keeping him at least one more round.
I’m afraid to suggest waiting because of Son, but making the changes for free next week is reasonable.
I’m stuck on this one, sorry!
