Fantasy Strategy.
What’s the point of planning? Good planning should increase the odds of achieving the goal – maximize results while reducing the risk. Not this season! After investing on Double Gameweek 19 players with scoring potential in the games leading up to it, fixtures were abruptly rescheduled. Leeds and Southampton no longer have a DGW19, Aston Villa suffered a COVID outbreak.
I accounted for unexpected events by taking a more short-term approach. But effective planning is dependent on a degree of stability in the field. Tottenham’s match against Fulham GW16 was called off just two hours before kickoff! Using Kane and Son as a combination differential didn’t work as intended because of circumstances beyond my control.
Do I have any regrets? The plan was to maximize points before, during and after BGW18. It wasn’t about any individual Gameweek score. Crucial games were suddenly postponed, BGW18 disappointed, and players brought in for hits no longer have a DGW19. The challenge now is to fight off the negative thoughts because that could lead do a downward spiral.
Planning is one tool of many. It can work well in situations with a high degree of predictability. But it can be rendered counterproductive with instability.
What do I do now? I watched every game. Grinding through many of them felt like a form of punishment mentally. But I did it because I don’t want to make decisions in the dark. Assessing individual and team form remains an important factor in FPL, although it’s becoming less reliable.
⚽️ If you know what to do today, then go do it and make adjustments after.
YouTube Videos.
I haven’t been posting YouTube videos because by the time I’m done recording, another game is cancelled rendering the video obsolete. I’m confirming key decisions minutes before deadline using the latest information. I miss making videos and music and can’t wait to get back! 😎 -Bruno
GW18 Review.
GW18 points: 46PTS (AVG: 30). Upper 90 Studios climbed to 148k in the Overall Rank.
The Results.
The Bad.
Karl Darlow (2PTS). The first half red card and penalty when the defender was pushed certainly didn’t help. But the truth is Sheffield United were up for this game. Steve Bruce invited the opponent to attack with his defensive approach, which they did by playing all their strikers!
Callum Wilson (2PTS). Should’ve scored with a header in the first half, but he was almost caught off guard by the driven first-time cross. Wilson was feeding off scraps even before the red card.
Romain Saiss (1PT). Everton were without their top striker Calvert-Lewin and I wanted to use Saiss as a differential against Tierney. Iwobi turned into Messi and scored five minutes in. 🙂
Pedro Neto (2PTS). He was creating chances from open play when he was taken out by a Doucoure tackle from behind. Never really recovered from the knock to his knee and is a doubt for GW19.
Bruno Fernandes (2PTS). Passed him up as captain or vice captain after a recent dip in levels.
Alexandre Lacazette (2PTS). One of the most infuriating performances from a Fantasy standpoint. With short recovery time between games, players must run with a purpose and save their energy. Lacazette chased defenders instead of combining with teammates in the attacking play. ❌
The Good.
Ruben Dias (7PTS) and João Cancelo (6PTS). Ruben Dias made everything look easy, Cancelo played a free role with less defensive responsibility.
Harry Kane (8PTS) and Son Heung-min (2PTS). The scoreline is less important in Fantasy than performances. Kane’s diving header helped him earn two bonus points. Son nearly tucked in a cross in the first half, then struck the post in the second with a trademark run in behind.
Captain Success.
Kevin De Bruyne (12PTS, captain). Excellent showing deserving of double digit returns in FPL. Two chances to score with just the keeper to beat, then earned a penalty in stoppage time which Sterling skied over the bar. De Bruyne finished on 6 points but it could’ve been a hat-trick. 👍
Chips Strategy.
The plan was laid out on the previous post >>> Blank Gameweek 18 Team FREE HIT CHIP!
Which is mostly unchanged from the video >>> Minimalist Guide to Blank and Double Gameweeks

Free Hit Chip BGW18, then choose an option for DGW19:
- Transfer hits
- Bench Boost Chip
- Second Wildcard
- NEW: Triple Captain Chip
I’m settled on the Transfer hits option. The idea is to maximize scoring potential DGW19 with a mix of single and double Gameweek players, leaving a solid team for the long-run. Since Leeds and Southampton had one of their games postponed, the Bench Boost becomes less enticing. Che Adams was previously on the bench, he makes way. Wildcard is saved.
GW19 Transfers.
GOALKEEPERS: Martinez
DEFENDERS: Justin, Coufal, Dallas
MIDFIELDERS: Salah, De Bruyne, Fernandes, Son, Soucek
FORWARDS: Kane, Bamford
BENCH: Mitchell
7x DGW players: Martinez, Justin, Coufal, Salah, KDB, Fernandes, Soucek
4x SGW players: Dallas, Bamford, Son, Kane
Five high-ceiling premium attackers at the expense of team balance:
- Salah
- De Bruyne
- Fernandes
- Son
- Kane
Captain.
Kevin De Bruyne is set as captain with two favorable home fixtures. The king of the Double Gameweek returns as vice captain – Mo Salah. Triple Captain Chip is an option DGW19.
Be sure to leave your comments and thoughts below. Thanks and good luck!!! 😎💯-Bruno

Hi Bruno
should used bench boost this week. i already bought in soucek. in my bech i have fabianski adn lewin, i need to take -4 hit since lewin injured i will like to take vardy since leichester DGW at Home. Vardy love to score big teams..below my current line up
Martinez
Coufal,Dallas,Robertson,Walkers-P
Son,Grealish,Salah,Soucek
Wood,Bramford
Bench:Fabianski,White,Eze,Lewin
any advise?

Hi. Good move with Soucek. I prefer not to give a direct yes or no with the chips as they can result in big points swings. In my case, I may wait until a different round when many of my bench players have a DGW.
Vardy is a strong pick and DCL has a blank. A -4 hit seems reasonable as a gamble for this move.

Hello Bruno,
Great content as always. It’s not just your fpl analysis but also your attitude that really makes your content so amazing.
This is my team right now-
Martinez*(McCarthy)
Chilwell* Cancelo* Dias* Cresswell* (Dallas)
Soucek* Bruno* Salah* KDB* (Saka)
Bamford Vardy* (Brewster)
0.2 ITB
I have already taken a -4 to bring in KDB
I have three plans in mind-
A. Do Vardy to Cavani and Brewster to Antonio and play bench boost. But that means a -12 in total. Not sure if it is worth the hits.
B. Play TC KDB. Great option but villa might be off due to covid and kdb looks tired. May be benched in one of the games. Not sure about this.
C. No chip just the normal first eleven with only Bamford as a single gw player. Is this normal to do in double gws?
My order is C>B>A at the moment. But this is the first time for me navigating a double gw and seeing people take hits left and right is making me reconsider my options.
What is your opinion?
Thanks in advance. Always love to read your stuff. Cannot wait to have the videos back once normalcy returns. Cheers!

Hello. I appreciate that, thanks.
Good move for KDB.
A. Stumped on this one! Vardy and Antonio are explosive players so there’s a potential for big points swings depending on which scores this round. Cavani is a sneaky pick, slight risk if he doesn’t get decent minutes. Don’t know if Martial is fit.
B. I’m 50/50 on TC KDB. Players are saving their energy, fixtures are not as easy as they seem on paper. City looked incredible against Chelsea because they had the advantage of rest. Since then, their energy levels dropped a bit which could be under instructions from Guardiola. The unknown over energy levels of the teams involved is the only concern. Then again, I don’t know if there will be a better opportunity later in the season.
C. Strong option. It’s hard to predict what could happen later in the season with other games being rescheduled. Will there be better opportunities to use the chips? A triple GW? DGW players can sometimes coast through both games and disappoint. Single-game players can give 100% and deliver a surprise, especially interesting in a season like this with short recovery time between games. In my experience, a combination of single and double gameweek players works well.
I like your order of preference. 👍
Missing the videos and normalcy especially. Thanks for the great comment.

Hello Bruno, quick question
The team with 1.4 Banked 1 ft
Martinez
Robertson, Justin, Dallas, Coufal (Douglas)
Salah, Fernandes, Son, Soucek, Bissouma,
Kane, Adams, Bamford
So like your advice of bringing in KdB to the team but if I did the same I would need transfer out Son. Do you think that’s a good idea. If so then I think I would transfer out Adams for Davis and Son for KdB and go 4 – 4-2.
So appreciate your thoughts on xfering out Son for Kdb.
Thank you.

Hello. I might give a slight edge to KDB because of the DGW. If Sheffield United attack as they did against Newcastle last game, Son could take advantage.
I’ve gone for both players with a big hit as I trust them in the long-run. I’m looking not just at DGW19, but also the next 3 games or so.
Son out in a move for KDB was my original plan, but with premium players and high ceilings, anything is possible and it’s hard to make that suggestion outright for others. It’s all so unpredictable at the moment. Sorry!

Hi bruno, saved my wildcard just to bench boost 19 but then…balbuena, taylor got injured while 4 players i owned (meslier, adams, raphinha and bamford) so that seems like my bench boost plans are ruined…made 3 moves for a -8 alr to do TAA, Balbuena and Raphinha out for Cancelo, Stones and Foden. (although I made them without knowing that there was the possibility of the leeds southampton game proceeding as per usual.) With those rumours, wonder if I should go ahead with the bench boost (Meslier, Taylor, Adams and Robinson (ful def)) or triple captain rashford (his away goal threat eclipses basically every premium in the game away from home and he hasn’t blanked away this season. With 2 away games for the dgw, really tempted to do so)
was considering an additional -4 for bamford to antonio but the rumours that the game cld be back on means I probably won’t do so. Thoughts on whether I shld use a chip? (fh used up alr)

Hi. I don’t know the latest on LEE+SOU being back on. If it is, it might be announced after the deadline which is almost impossible to plan for. At this moment, I might approach it as if there was just one game for the teams.
Bamford has a high scoring potential even if it’s just one game. I’m happy to keep him with the added rest. Antonio is a top pick if fully-fit, some unknowns there but it could work as a gamble.
Trying to type quickly, running out of time with the deadline… 🙂
I usually prefer not to say yes or no with the chips because of the swing in points. There are so many unknowns that I’m holding off and saving them for now.

Hi Bruno, great to see you get a green arrow last gameweek.
Here is my current team
Fabianksi (Mccarthy)
Robertson Cancelo Coufal Dallas (Bednarek)
Salah(c) Bruno Soucek Son (Anguissa)
Bamford Vardy (Adams)
Shaped my team for a bench boost this week but the Southampton game made me change my mind.
Would love to hear your thoughts on my team.
Should I transfer out Fabianski for Martinez?
Upper 90 Studios
16/01/21
Hi. Thanks. Unbelievable with the fixture changes.
It could be ok to give Fabianski a chance because WHU have arguably the best fixtures for a GK. But I have Martinez so it’s not easy to say! 🙂
Trying to reply quickly… Good luck! -Bruno

Hi Bruno,
I love your team for GW19. excellent picks considering im sure it took some sacrafices.
i continue to be impressed by the way you assess the game. thanks for always having reliable and relevent material.
as for me…
well Im writing this on Monday after the first ’round’ of the double gameweek and im kicking myself.
i was moments away from taking a -4 hit to bring in Antonio and KDB for Rodrigo and Salah but decided to give Salah the benefit of the doubt at a double Anfield visit.
Antonio looks tired but still a great option. i just decided Soucek would be my fallback.
now im leaning towards doing the same transfer for GW 20 but with his price going up quickly and my unwillingness to do early transfers with so many unknown variables im worried i might get priced out of the move.
My Question today as i watch what will probably be a red arrow hit this week….
what are your thoughts on doing early transfers when taking covid, injuries, price rises etc. into account?
Regards
Kyle Gregory (Civilians FC)

Hi bruno,
I have mini league with my friends and we decide to get 2 league in 1 season (GW 1 to 19 and 20 to 38).
In the 2nd league (GW 20 to 38).
We will reset the score and start the score from 0 with the same team.
Since this GW 19 is the last GW for our mini league and the score for GW 20 will reset to 0. I just wondering will I get the minus in the GW 20 if I make many transfer?
I want to change almost half of my team without using wildcard hahaha…
Hopefully you can help with my question. Thankss…

Hi Bruno, funny thing my original non-FH team would do 10 points above my FT team lol All my differentials failed but still managed to go up 200k places. Would you do:
a. KDB to Gundo/Rash/Foden/Sterling/Madds/Barnes for a hit which if yes? or
b. Play Dallas
Cap:
a. Bruno
b. Kane/Son
c. Bam
d. Antonio
thx

Hi. Nice to see a solid rank boost. 🙂
Running out of time before deadline, so I’m typing quickly. Captain, Bruno seems a reasonable choice as Sheffield United may be without up to 9 players, while Rashford is available. Son a good differential captain against Liverpool’s high line. He’s my vice.
The transfer… super difficult, could say it’s between a City player and Maddison. Don’t know which one, I went premium KDB to premium Mane. Good luck!!! -Bruno
