FPL GW33+ Review
Hey guys! No time to waste, here’s my GW33 review and transfer plan for GW34.
Choosing captain.
When choosing a captain, I consider multiple factors including team form. Liverpool haven’t been at their best for some time, even before they sealed the title. One case for captaining Salah was the possibility of a response from the players after the heavy 4-0 defeat.
It didn’t happen. Liverpool struggled to get a shot on target against Villa and it took the individual brilliance of Mane late in the game to break the deadlock. Aston Villa pushed, leaving them vulnerable on the counter.
Manchester United on the other hand have been on the rise since the arrival of Bruno Fernandes. They look like they can score with every attack and have something important to fight for, Champions League.
As far as ownership, Salah was the safe captain pick. Many FPL influencers promoted Salah as the top captain pick and it worked. Even if Salah did poorly, safety in numbers wouldn’t hurt their Overall Rank.
Experimenting with the captaincy is a viable option for those looking to make up ground quickly.

Let’s break down player performances starting with the captain.
Bruno Fernandes (30PTS, Captain).
Rumors of a training ground injury involving Fernandes and Pogba were quickly extinguished. To eliminate future distractions, I muted the Twitter accounts sharing false information:

Fernandes was a monster against Bournemouth! One goal, two assists and two bonus – captain! 🔥 Bruno and Pogba are showing great chemistry and understanding. Their intelligence and creativity in the midfield is a boost for Manchester United assets in FPL. They face Aston Villa next.
Christian Pulisic (6PTS).
Brilliant performance from Pulisic who deserved more points for his efforts. As mentioned in last week’s blog post, Pulisic is becoming essential in Lampard’s setup. One reason for the -4 hit was to swap Traore out for Pulisic. After watching Wolves and Chelsea in action, I’m more confident with the American going forward. The concern is his recent minutes. With Chelsea playing the early game GW34+, early lineup news could be key. If I find anything worth noting, I will add it to the ***UPDATE section at the top.
*NOTE: The only Twitter account for early lineup news that has never been wrong is @FPL_Rockstar. However, there was another account that got the Manchester City lineup right GW33. Keep in mind, some accounts are new and unproven. It could take some time for me to make changes to my FPL team based on their info.
EDIT: I want to be clear that the only account with accurate lineups so far is @FPL_Rockstar. Be careful and use the mute function to weed out misinformation.
Other: Marcus Rashford (6PTS). An improved performance from the previous game. Rashford was denied a second goal by another close offside VAR decision. Alexander-Arnold (6PTS) and Mo Salah (6PTS). Neither Liverpool nor Aston Villa played particularly well. Straightforward clean sheet for Trent and a quiet game from Salah until the assist to Mane that gave Liverpool the win.
The bad.
Raul Jimenez (2PTS). Wolves must create more chances to score. Until they do, Jimenez won’t be considered for the captaincy. His starting spot in my team could even be threatened by a new arrival.
Nick Pope (2PTS) and Charlie Taylor (2PTS). Burnley held strong until the 80th minute when a super strike from John Egan caught Pope by surprise. Despite Ben Mee missing out with a thigh injury, Burnley were defensively solid. If their captain is out for a long spell, will it affect their clean sheet potential?
Kevin De Bruyne (1PT). The dreaded 1-point cameo from the bench. To rub salt in my wounds, Sadio Mane (11PTS) scored the winning goal for Liverpool. Accepting this scenario ahead of time softened the blow (I cried a little). Always a risk when swapping premium players in Fantasy! 🙂 Hopefully a rested De Bruyne will make up for it at home versus Newcastle this week and in the long-run. GW34 captain?

Still deciding between Greenwood and Jimenez for my own team, so I can’t say at this moment.
I’m not sure if Greenwood had many opportunities to score or if he’s just super efficient taking his chances… Taking more time and getting more info before deciding.

Well done with the captaincy choice GW33+ 🙂 I personally had an okay gameweek with 51pts but picked Mane over Fernandes in the wildcard team and captained Mahrez. Yikes.
It’s been playing on my mind but the Mahrez blunder made me decide to look at the numbers, how many points have I dropped by picking the wrong captain? I was shocked to find that I’ve lost 326 points this season by not picking my highest scoring player as my captain 32 out of 33 times. Adding this number to my total points and I would’ve ranked joint 14th in the OR!! (Note this does take into account the 2 times I should’ve captained my GK and the surprising number of defenders haha). So I was wondering do these numbers sound the same in your team as well or am I really unlucky? Not going to make you run your numbers or have an estimate, just curious.
For this week I’ve swallowed my pride and swapped Mane for Fernandes a week too late. Initially my captain choice would be Fernandes but I seen a stat on BBC Sport saying Man City have surprisingly lost their last 3 away games. But Man City are playing at home to Newcastle and that got me thinking what is their home form is like? Straight away I’ve found that in the last 3 home games KDB has started, he has scored 14 points each game. I know that seems like a very unrealistic stat to use to predict my best captain but after KDB getting rested last game, seeing my captain numbers this season and watching a new to the game casual player in my mini-league score 101 points this week. After this every long season I’m willing to let fate give me a break just this one week 😅 The same logic could be applied to Fernandes with a similar outcome but the voice at the back of my head keeps saying Fernandes is due a rest and KDB is a safer option.
Also with the ITK twitter accounts. I started following FPL_Subscribe when he started a couple weeks ago, he’s so far got the Man City line ups correct but any other team was incorrect if I remember right? But tonight FPL_Subscribe and FPL_Driver started having twitter beef, I seen FPL_Driver’s predictions too and FPL_Subscribe liking and retweeting him but then there’s this whole mess about them texting each other and being shady. For now I won’t trust either account. I even have a theory that they’re the same person! The way they write is almost identical and the drama could boost FPL_Drivers reputation against FPL_Subscribes already iffy predictions, this could all be scripted 🤦🏻♂️ Morale of the story, always trust FPL_Rockstar XD

Hey! Could not believe Mahrez. Guardiola is a unique coach to sub off Sterling and Mahrez early when needing to score. At first I was happy that KDB came on, then I realized there weren’t many goals scorers left. Mane vs. Fernandes wasn’t so bad since Mane scored 11pts.
326? I’m afraid to look for my team then. 🙂 I don’t know the numbers for this season, but overall I feel it’s been ok so far with captains. It can make a big difference like this week. Fernandes pulled half my team’s score! Take that away and it would’ve been huge red arrows instead of small.
Yes, I saw that stat on KDB as well. What if both KDB and Fernandes score 14pts? That would work well. 👍

Hi Bruno, Thank You for sharing in these tight GW turn around. I got 70pts this week… but made a bad move in my forward position I was going for Greenwood but looked at Tammy last time scored 12pts and put him in ouch. but it’s okay.
my question is do I keep him this week or move to Greenwood?. will they rest him… that’s the million dollar question.

Hi. Congrats on the solid score. Do you mean will they rest Greenwood? It almost looked like Greenwood was being managed and saved by being subbed at 75min. Ole seems settled on his best XI and might not make significant changes unless absolutely necessary (injuries).
That’s only a guess. I don’t know what Ole will do, and Lampard is even harder to predict with Abraham vs. Giroud. Greenwood has the edge on current form.
I’m still deciding whether to start Jimenez or Greenwood for my team. I have research to do before deadline and there are lots of unknowns with short recovery time between games.

Hi. 250k OR here. Didn’t expect Vardy to score when I saw that Maddison was out.
That’s a nightmare decision. Ings is impossible to sell at the moment. He even came close against City and his team won.
Between Vardy and Jimenez, but I have Jimenez and I’m not ready to part ways with him until I’m sure.
It’s a tough one because I’m still debating whether I can trust Greenwood as a starter. I didn’t think he had many clear chances to score. Then again, it doesn’t seem like he needs many chances.

Hi Bruno, thanks for sharing your insight for this GW34+. I am now at 263K with small red arrow last GW since I captained Salah over Fernandes.
I wonder why do you still keep Salah? I am afraid he is benched in this GW and Liverpool seems to be not playing with their hearts right now. Now I am confused to transfer him for Son using 1 FT, or get Foden and Kane using -4 hit. Any thoughts? My MF now consists of Salah, Fernandes, Mahrez, KDB, and Pulisic.

Good question. Liverpool are making it difficult for FPL if their hearts aren’t in it. One reason for keeping Salah is I don’t have a direct replacement. I had Sterling on my Watchlist, then he got subbed at 59min for 1 point. Since I brought in Greenwood, I have 3x United with no spots for Martial. Since our squads aren’t the same, we could have different options in our transfer plans.
I watched Spurs and they are also making it hard to assess for FPL. I just don’t know with Kane or Son. I’m happy to keep Son of course because of the opponent, and it should be much easier to suggest him for others… Then again, it’s Bournemouth and they don’t care about defending! I might give a small edge to Son over Salah this round.
Those are the thoughts for now.

Great job on the captaincy. I myself went with Rashford thinking it was his turn to haul but didn’t go as planned. I ended with 64 points and small red arrows. I transferred out Sterling and Saka for Mahrez and Pulisic and you know how that went for me 🙂 It was frustrating but hoping for big performances from those guys in coming gws. Below is my current team with 1.7 in the bank. How would you improve it? Please let me know your thoughts.

GK+DEF are set for now. Blow for Burnley with Mee’s injury, so let’s see if they can keep it solid without him. Not a priority just yet…
Attackers are set. No concerns. Captain is perfect, I may go the same route, still thinking.

I salvaged 59 points this week, with the help of McCarthy, rank dropped to 89k.
My current team looks like this,

I’ve got 1 FT for this week, and since liverpool didn’t look great I planned to remove Salah to get Son or Kane and Willian/Pulisic (-4).
Do you think I should go for this tranfer? And I’m also thinking of getting Vardy for the Bournemouth game.

Hi. Thanks. McCarthy was a monster. I couldn’t believe what I was seeing, like a cat with his reaction speed. haha.
Not an easy decision. I just wrote my first thoughts on Salah and Son below if you’d like to read it. The point was that I’m happy to keep to Son for Bournemouth, but it’s hard to assess Spurs at this moment. Similar situation with Liverpool. I might give a small edge to Son because of the opponent who can’t be bothered to defend at times. Brighton work harder defensively as a team.
Now that I’m writing it all out, with unknowns over Spurs, I might prefer Son over Kane for the value. Son had a few chances to score GW33. Once one goes in, his confidence could return.
Pulisic/Willian have such short recovery period for today’s game. I’m looking for early lineup info before deciding whether to start Pulisic for my team. They also had FA Cup last week. If Pulisic/Willian start, they are good options, similar to Son but with an opponent that can sometimes stifle opponents.

Such a difficult decision this round, but the plan you created with the premium forwards is reasonable.
ASM could miss out and it is City. DCL hasn’t been scoring, but I haven’t been watching him closely since I sold him a few rounds back. I did see his back heel flick yesterday, that was some technique.
I might add the option of giving these players one final chance, but it’s not easy to use up one of the 2FTs anyway. If you make the changes, leaning toward Option B with the high-ceiling forwards future plan.
Lots of unknowns with this strange season. Trust your instinct. Thanks!

Hi. I might give Kane a small edge because the opponent can sometimes forget to defend. But you’d have to accept the risk swapping premium players, like I did last week selling Mane. Hopefully it pays off when tallying up points from multiple Gameweeks.
Wolves have to increase the number of goal-scoring chances. Jota’s form hasn’t helped.
