Hi Bruno
l hope you are keeping well and the new season is almost upon us!
l have been playing around with various permutations and currently narrowed down to the below, well l have about another 6 but my brain is starting to hurt Ha….
Option = ITB £1.0
GK – McCarthy / Nyland
DEF – Robo / Davies / Walker-P / Saliba / Mitchell
MID – Salah / Auba / Son / Saint-Max / Bissouma
FOR – Werner / Ings / Brewster
Thoughts;
GK –
*Ryan/ McCarthy are my favoured rotating GK’s, but l always get it wrong.
*Nyland may get a couple of games, but Steer could get game time while Heaton is injured.
DEF –
* ROBBO in due to funds, but would have liked TAA.
* DAVIES, Spurs not the greatest defensively, but with Mourinho plus good fixtures l am backing him as opposed to Dier.
* WALKER-P has impressed since his move, so let’s see, but with McCarthy GK l may have to rethink.
* SALIBA brought in to replace Vinagre, not great fixtures GW3-7 which make this a tricky selection as l will be playing 4 at the back and hope Arteta and the new sigings make a difference?
* MITCHELL, well there isn’t much on offer at this price point, he may get a few games until PVA returns.
MID –
* SALAH not too bothered by pre-season or the re-start of last season, he’s in.
* AUBA everyone has him for the first 2 GW’s – he will become KDB/Sterling GW3.
* SON love this player, but may switch to Fernandes/Rashford GW2.
* SAINT-MAX struggled somewhat at this price point, good fixtures if not game week assured.
* BISSOUMA looks the stand out at this price
FOR –
*WERNER looks a really good buy for Chelsea and their new line up looks very interesting and coming from the Bundesliga l hope he will make the transition quickly plus he is in 47% of teams so l am covering him and may switch to Martial.
*INGS over previous seasons l never get the timing right with him, so lets see, but l may switch to Vardy later or even Augero who looks very under priced.
*BREWSTER originally l had Davies and l am hoping he goes out on loan.
Captain between Salah/Auba
l think that’s enough of my ramblings, but l look forward to your thoughts and comments particularly the defense.

A few Villa fans mentioned that Steer was second choice to Heaton until Steer picked up a knock. That’s when Nyland stepped in, so they expect Steer to be second choice and possibly first if they don’t sign anyone.
DEF
Defenders look good overall. No major issue going Robbo vs. TAA. If TAA starts pulling away, then consider the change. Davies seems set to start and is a decent price. Hard to find top defender options in the 4-4.5m range this year. Mitchell could be ok despite the tough fixtures and assuming PVA takes a bit longer to recover. Palace posted pictures of PVA training, but it might be his first time on grass, not full training.
MID
We know what Salah can do. If he disappoints, I would be tempted by Fernandes vs. Palace GW2. Same here with Auba, possibly Son. Any of these players have to really earn their place in the squad, or there are alternatives.
FOR
Agree with you on Werner. He makes my latest GW1 team. Couldn’t stand the thought of watching Chelsea in the late game on Monday and not enjoying it. I want to select players I’m excited to watch, and Chelsea’s attack this season…
Ings vs. Palace GW1 is such a good opportunity to get up and running with a few goals. Palace have nearly every one of their starting defenders out injured.
Brewster could be nice on loan, unless it’s a Championship side as they mentioned yesterday. 🙂

Making some last minute changes to the team but currently:
ITB 1.5
McCarthy (Ryan)
TAA-Davies-Justin-Saiss (Ferguson)
Salah-Auba-Son-Ward Prowse (Bissouma)
Werner-Adams (Brewster)
Plan
GW2 Fernando in for Son with 1.5 ITB.
GW3 KDB/Sterling for Auba
Concerns
1. With Ferguson’s current injury and Brewster unlikely to start if no loan/transfer then bench is looking week. I think Ferguson is most likely 4.0 to start once back from injury and don’t want to waste a transfer to get him back in.
2. How confident are you that Justin will start with current injuries? Any better 4.5m defenders in your opinion? I like KWP but with McCarthy in goal and WP & Adams already at 3 Southampton.
3. Unsure of Bissouma. What are your thoughts on the 4.5m mid?

Liking the current plan. Justin could offer decent value for the price until Pereira returns. I have to look into Davies/Saiss a bit more for my own squad. I flipped to Egan a few days ago.
Attackers are ready.
1. Makes sense assuming he makes a quick recovery. None of the alternatives are guaranteed starters. I’m also going weak bench and have accepted that I could be a player short the first 1-2 Gameweeks. It’ll force me to improve it!
2. Strong chance as he stepped up in Pereira’s absence, and Pereira will be out for some time. But anything can happen and I don’t know for sure. I prefer Justin at £4.5m and there are no others on my Watchlist except Konsa after the blank. Even he is a big risk, but I liked watching him play at the end of last season. His partnership with Mings locked in their defense and kept them up.
3. Bissouma, no one else and I’m also looking for my team. I mentioned Dale Stephens on the GW1 video, lucky not to get sent off a few times last season… GW1 video: https://youtu.be/OEj63Ft5zRU

Hi Bruno. I have a quandary. I was planning to start Salah this week and switch to Bruno for week 2. However my goalkeepers fir the season are Pope and Nyland which leaves me without a starter for week 1. So let’s rule a double swap out for week 2 but what to do…. start Salah and no goalie then sub in Bruno or bench Bruno and put Alison Becker in for one week and then sub in Pope. Decisions decisions. Good luck for the season my friend and please let me know your thoughts. Jon

Hi Jon. Interesting because Salah to Bruno GW2 is my current plan. You were ahead of me.
Keep in mind, there are Villa fans who say Steer is second choice behind Heaton until Steer picked up a knock. That’s when Nyland stepped in. I don’t know who will start if Villa don’t sign someone, but it might be worth researching before deadline.
The funny thing is we might have lots of managers a player or two short GW1, including me. All the blank GW players, £4m defenders (and some £4.5m), Soucek, other surprises with COVID…
I wouldn’t worry too much about being down a player for one round. I can tell you I was considering going a defender short for longer than 1-2 games.
It might be cleaner if the goalkeeper you bring in for GW1 could stay longer than just one round. Leaning toward Salah and no GK, but I would need more time to think. The other note is if you have Bruno from the start, you’ll have no stress over his price rising quickly which I would imagine will happen.
Hard to predict how Liverpool will start, both offense and defense. That’s the tricky part, so I can only add the thoughts above for now.

I’m planning on selling Salah GW2, unless he and Liverpool really crush it GW1. His initial ownership and captaincy stats are difficult to ignore and I don’t want to risk falling behind early on.
But we all have different teams, so it depends on how it all fits into your plan.

Hi! Great to hear that, thanks.
You have safe cover in key positions with Salah, Auba, Son, Werner. Including them allows pivoting to other premium options like KDB easily.
One concern is if the big hitters don’t deliver for their price when the weaker players fail to punch above their weight. Then you might make adjustments to level it out, possibly investing more at the back in the near future and the bench down the road.
