FPL GW5 Team
🚨 Final GW5 Team! 🚨
TRANSFERS OUT: Wan-Bissaka, Mané
TRANSFERS IN: van Dijk, De Bruyne
***UPDATE: Two transfers close to deadline: Wan-Bissaka and Mané out for van Dijk and KDB (-4 hit). Not taking a chance in case Newcastle lock things down away as they did versus Spurs already this season. Norwich have no defensive players, I prefer Man City attackers this round. Watching another round of games to assess form and potential, leaving enough flexibility to upgrade any position – defense, midfield, forwards. Thanks for your patience and good luck everyone! 👍💯 -Bruno
Previous updates.
Still deciding who to sell, Wan-Bissaka or Maguire. Not happy to see Wan-Bissaka at 50%, although he was pictured with the United squad. I might end up taking a chance on Maguire against his former club… Vardy vs. Maguire sounds like a really good time! 🙂
No early transfers. There is a 2-week international break that could see surprise injuries or players benched GW5. Waiting until the press conferences before making any moves, but that doesn’t mean we can’t plan ahead.
I’m considering making another video for GW5 with the top picks and high-risk players to avoid. Can’t wait to watch the rest of the games (except Man United) and do some research. I appreciate your positivity, stay tuned! -Bruno

CAUTION! International duty.
Some Premier League players will be away with their countries during the two-week international break.
This increases the risk of injury and rotation GW5. My plan is to hold off on early transfers, even if it means missing out on price changes. The press conferences should provide more clues close to deadline. If you’re on a Wildcard, you can rest easier. 👍

As a Man Utd fan I saw the defensive double up as a bit of a gamble.
I did have martial and rashford in my squad, however they are both gone now as I don’t see them keeping up with even the likes of pukki and Barnes in the goal department, I have no idea where our goals will come from.
Sterling and Salah look to be in a different league altogether and not having both at the moment will mean being so far behind.
KDB is the assist king with all the quality around him, however no one is safe from Pep’s rotation.
All in all a great first couple of game weeks. I’m favouring attacking options rather then defensive ones as it seems that most teams are struggling to keep clean sheets. Liverpool springs to mind, although I think if Alison was still fit it’d be a completely different story.
Have really appreciated your insight, you definitely swayed me to wildcard last week however I’m not regretting it what so ever, my team needed so much work and your video helped me realised that.
All the best

It was a massive gamble. Should’ve been more careful.
Agree with you on Martial and Rashford.
Yes, on Salah and Sterling. No one is safe with Pep, true.
Need an update on Alisson, although they did look a bit better defensively vs. Burnley. Only 1-2 times the forwards were able to get in behind.
Thanks for the assessment of the players, always appreciate the advice. 👍

Hi Bruno
I hope you are well.
Firstly lotsa appreciation for the fabulous work you are doing and being able to post a video in such a struggling week where pride has to be put aside to move forward. Respect🤛🏼
Awesome music and great insights on your video how to assess and address the key strategic approach going forward.
Also, I agree as fellow FPL Managers we should assist and support each other. Im sure all die hard FPL fans are supporting you all the way and know you will gradually find your way soon with big green arrows. Onwards and Upwards.🚀. Cant wait for your next videos and blogs.
I have similar issuesto you, with 40 points in GW4 and red arrows, dropping from 99k to 850k.
Thats massive sinking feeling…..but as you said all is not lost, just strategic refocus with a few small changes. Its early in the season, with massive jumps on ranking still possible, if planned properly with the correct strategy and a bit of luck.
I had Mane over KDB and 2 Man U defenders over 2 Liverpool defenders, unlike the Elite64. Big mistake!. Man U are struggling, no x factor in their play, besides DanielJames, the magician!.
I have decided to though act early, brought in TAA and KDB last night over Mane and AWB as my TV is not as high as yours, to prevent being priced out.Now just holding thumbs no surprises leading to GW 5.
How do I know your Elite64 strategy is a good approach……when my wife’s FPL team, that she is so proud of( even though I help her with the transfers) is doing much better than my FPL team😳…….she is around 102k OR after GW4. I dont know how she did it……she does watch your videos(as do my 2 young sons). She has a lot of the Elite64 top owned players, with her differential being an instinct, Aubamayeng, who has been decent!. One way to prevent your wife from complaining about your FPL time….get her her own team….and even better let her beat you😉
Just one point to enquire about for now, whats your thoughts on covering a 2nd Liverpool defender via 4.5m GK, Adrian……he has the same FPL points as Robertson and is 2.4m cheaper, allowing funding upgrades elsewhere, with Dunk possibly to cover Ryan’s Brighton defence.Unless you think Pope should still be better cover for Elite64 ownership. Thoughts?

Hi. Thanks. I just wanted to put the problems behind me and move forward, but then I’d be leaving others in the dark and they could be having bad weeks also.
Yes, the positive is that we can make big leaps in the OR quickly. It’s a small gap to a strong OR from the millionaire’s club, which is where I ended up after being inside 250k last week. 🙂
James is so fun to watch. Love him already. The rest…
That’s funny with your wife. My wife is pretty good at FPL also. She’s like the conservative side when I try to do aggressive moves.
I wouldn’t move for Adrian without knowing the official return date for Alisson. He has an extra two weeks to recover now.
Pope, Ryan and Heaton are the near £4.5m GKs I’d consider going forward. The safest is Pope because of his ownership in the #Elite64. But Ryan was unlucky playing down a man with a first half red card GW3. Brighton are really improved. They played out of the back against Man City and didn’t look phased at all, unlike Man United! But of course, Aguero makes a big difference.

Hey Bruno ,
Firstly let me give my sympathies about your low points tally this week . It’s been a hard week .
But there’s a long way to go , the trends are up and down in the short run .
Keep your eyes on the long run, patience is key . You’ve got a good analytical mind , you’re open to correction , open to accepting your mistakes and you have experience in the gaqme , the problem is behind now , the solution is what lies ahead !
I’d like your view on my situation .
I think it would be good for me to bring in De Bruyne and TAA in place of Mane and Dunk in my squad over the next few weeks.
I took some big risks in the opening weeks an they back fired : i.e not having sterling and keeping faith in Fraser , siggy and Wilson .
It set me back about 30 points at least just not having sterling .
Anyways ,
This is my team now :
Pope
PVA Van Dijk Digne Lundstram (Dunk)
Salah Sterling Mane Mount McGinn
Pukki
Bench : Button Greenwood Wickham .
ITB : 1.5 .
Team Value : 101.2 .
So this week Ive taken a hit , I had to bring in McGinn for Ceballos as my direct competitors in my mini league have him and I’m already chasing them because of sterlings strong opening two games .
Ceballos is a rotation risk, he was bad against Liverpool but they are an extremely strong team , I think he might be good over the season but way to risky for me in a chasing position . He had to go .
Also I had to get rid of Wan Bissaka. My patience has run out with him . United are too unpridictable and have been for the past 14 games or so .
I replaced wan Bissaka for PVA this week and Ceballos for Mcginn. Points hit =4.
Now my conundrum is the absence of De Bruyne to Mane risk and absence of TAA (or Robertson or city defender) to PVA risk .
I didn’t have the funds to bring in TAA so I went with PVA, I have to sell Mane to get the funds for Dr Bruyne and TAA .
But that would mean taking another 8 points for 12 in total.
Tell me its not worth the points hit and I should just wait ?
I think the risk in Mane should be okay for a game or two, well minimum , it’s TAA area that’s more risky .
I have to stabilise my points loss and lower the risk against my main competitors but I’m just thinking I’d have to gain a serious points surplus to make it worth it .
Not taking the points hit , it means I would have de Bruyne and TAA in my team by GW 6 and 7 respectively without any hits (considering there’s no other major injuries etc ) .
Sorry about the long winded comment I hope you can make sense of it and I’d appreciate your opinions .
Ideally as a game plan is like to really minimise hits compared to my competitors . If they take 4 points hit every 4 weeks that’s over 30 points , it’s maybe a tactical edge I could gain but it is difficult because of injuries , bad decisions etc.
But I really keep reminding myself , are the problems I’m looking at better solved in the LONG run or the short run .
Panic is a major enemy .
Thanks again Bruno for the Great content .

Hey Dominic,
That’s fantastic advice. Thank you for writing that. 👍
I agree on Ceballos. He was fighting for a starting spot against Liverpool, and he was so bad. I was worried he was gonna be dropped for the next game and sold him that Saturday night!
Like the move at the back also.
I would be cautious taking large hits ahead of a two-week international break. These games are not friendlies where the players can coast and get subbed off early. They will play to win, unless they build a nice early lead of course.
I’m still undecided on Mane vs. KDB. Mane is motivated to score and we could see a gesture of kindness from Salah next game. That was pretty bad from Salah to cut to his weaker foot and losing that chance when Mane was wide open.
Don’t worry. You are already safe with the players you have. Mane to KDB is always easy to make because KDB is cheaper. Information is worth the £0.1m or £0.2m. Sometimes your mind could change completely closer to deadline.
Since we have the same players and I don’t have a final decision, it’s hard to point you in a set direction.
Thanks for the great comment. 👍

Olá Bruno 😉
Hi made 55 points and , still , a lot of red arrows 🙁
I have used the Wildcard in gameweek 2 too, brought in Martial and Rashford and damn what a luck with Martial being injured 🙁
I also have changed Salah for Mane to bring De Bruyne , I hope to get Salah again
Lundstram had to play , 1 pt
I have just one free transfer and I´m thinking swap Rashford for Barnes What you think ? (Rashford Looks like he doesn’t like scoring goals)

Yes rashford has very bad game

Olá. Yes, it was a tough week with key players blanking, plus Martial!
Yes, if forced to choose, I prefer Barnes over Rashford. Hopefully you have some time to wait for the international break without being forced into an early transfer.

Mané could have 2-3 goals if Salah made more passes.
I am not suprise from his reaction.
I am happy for my DEF 6+6+5 (bench 6+1), GK 3.
But only one goal scorer, one asistent and three CS from my 7 offensive players.
Maybe just variance of long run.
GW4: 48 points (57 avg) – 245 total
Unluckily I pick up worse one for captain from Salah-Sterling in each GW 😀
I propably save my FT and decided before next week with double FT or 3 moves with -4.
My players radar – KDB, James, Abraham.
My current team (wildcard before GW4)
Heaton (Button)
Robertson-Zinchenko-Digne (Lundstram, Kelly)
Salah-Sterling-Mane-Cantwell-Mount
Pukki-Barnes (Greenwood)
for GW5 Cantwell (vs MCI) on bench and Lundstram on pitch. Schedule for my 11 looks pretty good except Norwich players.
I believe in this team in long run.

Yees Salah was in my nerves , he could have passed the ball to Mane several times
Dominic
01/09/19
Totally agree with you about Mane,
I wa so annoyed with Salah, could have been another goal foe mane and would have acted as a nice differential , Mane obviously has himself on FPL too lol!!!
I like your team, especially the capacity of rotation . Good luck !

Know what you mean with Mané. That was hard to watch Salah cutting to his weaker foot when Mane was wide open.
Great Watchlist! 🙂
Liking the idea with starter vs. bench this week.
Great team and plan.

My wildcard team:
Pope, button
D : Lundstram, dunk, matip, mings, Kelly.
M: Salah, Sterling, KDB, Mane, Cantwell
F: Greenwood, Barnes, Abraham
Question:
Is Matip regular starter now?
If not please let me know the replacement for Matip

Don’t know exactly about Matip. Need to research it a bit more, especially once Champions League starts in September.
If he’s 100% nailed-on as he should be, your team should be set. 👍

Hi Bruno,
Good spirit. Just keep the trust. You had a plan, just keep working along those lines! Maybe a small allegory could help, as – in these circumstances – I always refer to the way I’ve ever seen Raphael van der Vaart make a brilliant move from what was actually a foul on him and a tumble!
I had a just above avarage GW4, on WC: 59 points and a small drop in OR from 362k to 385k. Compared to the Elit64 I find myself in company of respectable FPL’ers as ‘The General’, Ben Crellin and Mark Sutherns. And all this also with thanks to your valued insights to concern about ‘The Template’!
From the outcome of GW4 I learned again, some of which stated here:
– Luckily I did chose some players in my WC-team that actually did score FPL-points,
– But even more happy I was to have avoided some that were in my plans at a certain stage and failed (a.o.: Boly > red, Ceballos > not nailed on, Jota > sub, AWB > well you know)
– Some though I regretted not to include (going Abraham, Ayew, and keeping VVD was an attainable option)
– Still having the trust, that the current team can sustain for a while, the core being solid, the additions have prospects (Burnley, WH, Mount, James and Pukki-all-on-his-own ;))
And, set appart:
Yes indeed, ‘influencers’ – as also you are one of them – have an influence! But it cannot ever be that an FPL-manager complains about that. FPL-managers make their own decisions and influencers should be considered as part of the game!
Without any reproach, this GW4 I followed two leads from ‘U90’ and one of them simply costed me 5 points. I had Kelly as a third defender and changed it to Lundstram on a ‘plausible’ argument in one of your blog-posts. Bad luck. The other one I’ll have to find out yet, because Pieters still looks to increase in price but I went for Lowton. Positive side of this is to have 0,1 ITB and that’s what I eventually prioritized.
We’re up for a 2 weeks pause. I hope I can save a transfer for GW5 to accommodate for GW6. Could be time to take a first -4 hit by than. For now, GW5-team stands as follows:
Pope,
Lundstram, Digne, Zinchenko
Salah, James, Mount, KDB, Sterling
Barnes, Haller
(Button, Pukki, Lowton, Kelly)
TV=101,0 ITB=0,1 OR 385k
All the best getting back on track!
I enjoy your video’s, you’re doing a great job!

Hi Wouter,
That’s great advice, I appreciate the motivation. Glad to hear about your standings, you’re in great company with strong FPL managers. 👍
Lundstram vs. Kelly: small margins. Aston Villa scored a late goal vs. Crystal Palace even while down a man. No way to control the referee’s decision to overule it – that’s what VAR is for, he should’ve let the play continue. Lundstram faced a shaky Chelsea defense and they could’ve scored more goals. Rudiger and Kante will be back soon, that was a small window of opportunity. Sorry if you followed that tip.
Team looks ready. Great work and thank you for the nice words.

Hi Bruno,
I’ve just seen your latest video from Gameweek 4 and it sounds like your in need of some help?…Or not if you don’t want to hear what I have to say.
Firstly, I’ve been following you now since GW1 and you’ve really grabbed my attention with your dedication to Fantasy Premier League. I’ve been playing this game now for more than 20 years (in various newspaper formats before the rise of the internet & Social Media. Last season was my 1st season playing FPL and I finished with a not-to-shabby 2166 points (I know I could have done better if I hadn’t used all my chips in the first half of the season and not knowing about double points for the captaincy until after week 10…D’oh!)
I would like to now offer you some help.
It seems to me that the market is still volatile and people who have already played their wildcard1 seems to have jumped a bit too early.
My strategy is to wait until I am satisfied that at least 1 player from every team has showed their goal scoring potential, this is because I want to identify the main key players who will score points on a fairly consistent basis throughout the whole season. This will give more a clearer idea who the regulars are (playing 90 minutes every week is important)
Secondly, in seasons gone by there are certain players who do continue their form from the previous season onto the next ( I ear-marked 3 players who I wanted but could only fit 2 of them in and, I’m pleased to say that both players have scored assists and goals since GW1)
Thirdly, I am determined not to take ANY point hits UNLESS I have players injured long-term or suspended from straight red cards (although now, I am seriously considering a 4 point hit for GW5) I took a few point hits last season including an 8 & 12 point hit which proved very costly and largely DID NOT pay off.
Fourthly, Do you take any notice of goal scoring stats for certain players against certain teams!?? I noticed before this weekend (GW4) that Vardy had a good recent record against Bournemouth 2 goals in the last 3 games (scored twice). Kane against Arsenal scored 9 goals in the last 9 games (Scored a penalty today) AND Sergio Aguero against Brighton – also scored twice yesterday.
Lastly, I couldn’t understand why you panicked and went with your wildcard because this showed you had very little faith in the original 15 players you selected for GW1….effectively you showed that for a moment that you didn’t believe in yourself which is why you’ve become a little unstuck (forgive me) but you need to give every player a little time to shine!
Now, after GW3 we are seeing other key players for lesser teams show what they’re capable of….and I plan to use my wildcard after the 2nd international break, probably GW9 when I will have a much better picture of what and where key players are at.
One last thing, I’m also wary of the Champions League starting soon so I’m hedging my bets on a mixture of non-european players this season like Ashley Barnes of Burnley AND Sebastien Haller of West Ham who I nearly started with on GW1 (I didn’t do so becuase I listened to your expert advice about new players to the league)
I hope these observations finds you well, of course you can completely ignore them!
I’m already looking forward to your next video 🙂
Good Luck for GW5!
Best,
Phil.
Upper 90 Studios
01/09/19
Hi Phil. I always welcome adivce, thank you.
You’re right about waiting to find out more about the players and teams. Waiting is something I may try in a future season as an experiment.
There was one key reason for going early, and I’ve been using the early Wildcard in every season since 2007 – price changes. I’m more comfortable having a strong Team Value right from the start. It allows more flexibility throughout the whole season, especially when using the Chips starting around GW32.
For example, this international break. The players I want are rising in price, but I can wait the full two weeks because I have around £0.5m as a buffer to let prices rise/drop.
My error with the Wildcard was going too far from the safe experts’ template. I could’ve made compromises by at least keeping a Liverpool defender. Or not getting Ceballos! That would’ve made a big difference, but it’s always easier after the games. 🙂
Thank you for the great assessment of the players, and I wish you big green arrows.

Hi Bruno,
I also didn’t have best of weeks (47 points) and fell behind in my Mini league. Below is my team
Pope (button)
Zinchenko, Robertson, WBA, digne (lundy)
Salah, Sterling, Siggy, Maddison (Dendoncker)
Pukki, Wilson (Greenwood)
My biggest worry is not owning KDB. I am thinking about downgrading Wilson to Ayew and upgrading Maddison to KDB for -4
What do you think? I am open to other suggestions on how i can bring kdb also. Thank you always
Upper 90 Studios
01/09/19
Hi. Sorry to hear that. It wasn’t fun on Saturday, 8 players, 8 blanks before Liverpool played!
KDB is a top pick GW5. Hard to tell if Maddison and Vardy can do well against United. It could get ugly for United if they try to play out of the back like they did vs. Southampton. Either way, KDB is easily the better player and pick for GW5. I can understand the move!
Not completely sure. Would need more time to think, especially if it means using Ayew as a starter. Not sure if he’s 100% nailed-on in the long-term, would need to research a bit more.
