According to the latest research by the Fantasy Sports Trade Association (FSTA), the number of people playing fantasy sports in the U.S. has exploded from 12.6 million in 2005 to 59.3 million in 2017.

Fantasy Sports Fans purchase behavior.
Fantasy sports fans are fiercely loyal to the players they draft. 73% have purchased items related to their fantasy teams such as player jerseys.
Spending habits.
Other findings from the FSTA and Ipsos research:
- 70% pay a fee related to fantasy sports (league entry fee, subscriptions)
- On average, those aged 18+ spend $556 on fantasy sports over a period of 12 months
- Fantasy sports fans spend an average of $46 annually on fantasy sports tips
- Mobile and emerging technologies (gaming consoles, Smart TVs) grow as the predominant way players consume fantasy
The Fantasy Effect
Participation in fantasy sports increases the interest in sports.
- 64% watch more live sports because of fantasy
- 61% read more about sports because of fantasy
- 54% of consumers would cancel a league supported media service if not for fantasy sports (TV channels, satellite service, apps).
