GW16 Transfers

GW15 Review.

Transfers in.

De Bruyne (14PTS, captain). Just seconds left in the game, he goes down in the box for the softest penalty you will ever see. Were De Bruyne owners lucky? For the penalty decision, absolutely.

And Haaland was booked for taking his shirt off which dropped him from two bonus to one. Those who captained De Bruyne were gifted four extra points because of Haaland’s celebration.

But KDB owners were also unlucky because Manchester City were down a man most of the game, and Haaland didn’t start. Just minutes after coming on as a sub, Haaland scored from an assist from De Bruyne that was ruled out by VAR.

James Maddison (11PTS). Two assists, two bonus points and he hit the post. Maddison had six shot attempts in the first half, the most by a midfielder in the opening 45 minutes of a Premier League game since 2017.

Midfielders.

Mo Salah (15PTS, vice captain). Tottenham actually played well, so I was grateful that Salah raised his game with two goals, maximum bonus. My plan was to get De Bruyne while keeping Salah.

Andreas (6PTS). With Mitrovic out, Pereira was clinical from the penalty spot.

Defenders.

Trippier (12PTS). ✅ Absolutely incredible this season. Subbed off with another clean sheet banked before Newcastle conceded.

Justin (7PTS). I took a chance on Lucas Digne in this position, clean sheet then he fractured his heel. I switched him to Justin, 5 clean sheets in his last 7 games. Brendan Rodgers played Justin in the league cup midweek, Justin scored then suffered a ruptured achilles. Now he’s out for the season.

Cancelo (-2PTS). ❌ The only good news is he’s available GW16.

Marc Guehi (2PTS) stepped in for Mitrovic. No clean sheet, but I was more worried about a yellow card as it would’ve been his 5th of the season ruling him out for GW16. Justin is out, I need Guehi.

As mentioned on the previous video, I’ve been using our Fixture Cheatsheet to choose who to start and the bench order.

Last week, the cheatsheet gave Justin a small advantage. This week, it picked out Marc Guehi even before Justin was ruled out for the season.

Goalkeeper.

Pope (3PTS). Unlucky to concede late in the game.

Bench.

Sam Greenwood (9PTS). I used him to free up funds for KDB and Maddison. Greenwood was always taking up that last spot on my bench.

Those were the players, so what’s the plan for GW16?

GW16 Transfer plans.

PLAN A.

TRANSFERS OUT: Mitrovic ❌
TRANSFERS IN: Solanke ✅

No hits, just a simple move for Solanke at home versus Everton. Everton had their worst performance of the season in the League Cup midweek. They lost 4-1 to Bournemouth who have now scored 9 goals in their last 3 games.

Solanke is owned by 33% of the experts in the #Elite64 league compared to Mitrovic with close to 60% ownership. Is it a boring transfer? Not after considering my differentials KDB and Maddison versus Saka and Zaha. (#Elite64 stats below)

I have a variation of PLAN A. Solanke is cheaper than Mitrovic, so I can use the extra funds for an optional move, but it requires a hit.

For example, I could sell Andreas who’s away at Manchester United and bring in Brighton’s Mitoma at home versus Aston Villa. Mitoma was on my Watchlist on the previous video, he’s super fun to watch. But is it worth the -4 hit?

The majority of the experts in the #Elite64 league do not have to take hits this week. 84% of the experts kept Haaland, Salah is owned by 80%. (#Elite64 stats below)

Overall, managers could be taking hits GW16. But I’m keeping an eye on my direct competitors who will finish in the top-100k at the end of the season.

We have one more round of games before the World Cup break, it’s easier to justify transfer hits when we can make them up over 2-3 Gameweeks.

That’s Plan A. Now PLAN B is going higher in price, replacing Mitrovic with Darwin Nunez at home versus Southampton. I could even go back to Kane although I didn’t like that he started midweek in the League Cup. He needs a rest.

I mentioned Darwin’s chemistry with Salah and how it will improve as they learn each other’s movements. Darwin provided an assist to Salah GW15 and he’s a former Benfica player, like Raul Jimenez who was one of my favorite players.

The problem with this plan is having to free up funds by sacrificing a key player. In my case, it would be De Bruyne who has a small risk of being benched. No one is really safe under Pep.

PLAN B.

TRANSFERS OUT: De Bruyne, Mitrovic ❌
TRANSFERS IN: Zaha, Darwin ✅

If we get Manchester City lineups before deadline, chances are FPL’s servers will crash and I won’t be able to make those transfers.

If I choose PLAN B with Darwin and Zaha, I wouldn’t have to worry about KDB. No need to wait for the leaked lineups and risk the servers crashing.

If I choose PLAN A with Solanke, I can do it on Thursday night to avoid a price drop on Mitrovic. Then I’ll decide whether to take a late hit for Mitoma. If the website crashes, Andreas plays.

And our Fixture Cheatsheet rates Andreas and Mitoma with the same opponent rating GW16. Andreas will be on penalties against his old club.

I’ve already made my decision while working on this blog post. And what helped me decide was seeing it in a different way by writing out my transfer plans:

Is Mitoma over Andreas worth the -4 hit?

Can I rely on Darwin and Zaha over KDB for a hit? De Bruyne will fight to ensure his team heads into the World Cup break in first place above Arsenal.
